The Family’s Role in the Twilight of Political Community
2021
The social history of modernity shows a progressive and accelerated decline of the political importance of the family. At the same time Politics also finds it more and more difficult to recognize itself as a community of life. We have to ask ourselves whether between the politica! irrelevance of the family and the loss of the community dimension of Politics there is a causa! connection, or at least a significant correlation.
Rules and norms: two kinds of normative behaviour:
2016
Celano’s notion of a “pre-convention” is grounded in the opposition between two allegedly different kinds of normative behaviour: observing a “rule” and conforming to a “norm”. This opposition plays a central role in Celano’s paper, and marks a crucial point in his intellectual trajectory. Nevertheless, it remains largely implicit. In this paper, I try to make it fully explicit, giving a more precise characterisation of both kinds of normative behaviour. I also focus on the importance of distinguishing between them, express some conjectures (or wishes) regarding Celano’s future research, and propose a (marginal) criticism.
State Without Territory: a legal-political heresy
2021
The sovereign, territorial, nation state form has imposed itself globally. Nevertheless, as Carl Schmitt points out: «Statehood is not a universal concept, valid for all times and all peoples». In other words, state is not the only possible way to establish a relationship between space, humanity and power. This paper intends to historicise the current geopolitical paradigm and drafting a heresy of the public law doctrine: a State Without Territory, a diasporic political community reclaiming some of the traditional government functions. In order to rethink the state concept, a pattern that shapes and affects so strongly both external reality and our minds, a methodology is needed. The author…

Depicting life, analysing the power: The ‘actuality’ of Italian cinema
2014
The increasing production of biographical films dealing with power and its figures raises interesting questions about the nature and the aims of political cinema. What are the strategies used to represent people whose public image has completely overlapped to their identity? This matter concerns not only thematic aspects of the biopic genre, but more in depth it discloses fundamental issues at the basis of any theory of cinema. From this point of view, some Italian instances propose original solutions, creating a coherent framework in continuity with a long tradition that has marked the history of Italian thought. This article aims at making a survey of these inputs through the analysis of …
Discorsi geneticamente modificati nella democrazia dello 'streaming'. Il nuovo ordine del discorso politico nell'Italia post-berlusconiana
2016
In this paper I discuss some features of Italian political discourse after the ending of the so called ‘berlusconismo’ (that is, the specific communicative style of Silvio Berlusconi, the leader of Italian right wing for almost two decades). In particular, I display the figure of Matteo Renzi, the current Italian Prime Minister and Secretary of PD, the most important Italian political party. In my work, I try to pinpoint the peculiarity of Renzi’s discourse strategies. In this vein, I suggest to use the notion of ‘disphasic discourse’, in order to underline the strong decrease of styles, genres and textual types variability characterizing his ways of communicating. I focus the attention on …
Paper bodies: Feminine Biopoetics in Margaret Cavendish Duchess of Newcastle
2012
In the debate between biopolitical and bioaesthetic approach the case of the literary – and performing – work acted by an English woman writer and natural philosopher lived between 1623 and 1673, could result really meaningful. The work and the whole life of Margaret Cavendish represents an interesting example of the ways in which biopolitical control on both bodies and minds could started to work in that period, and in which ways a woman like Cavendish could resist to both epistemic and physical violence by fighting a battle on two grounds, by means of her own artistic creations and her body expressions. Her physical or material artistic products could represent a result of which evolution…
«Largo a noi, all’alta battaglia»: l’engagement di Zola nella ricezione italiana
2016
