Maximal degree of airway narrowing induced by methacholine and adenosine monophosphate: relationship with the decrease in forced vital capacity.
2010
Background Changes in forced vital capacity (FVC) may represent an indirect method for the detection of plateau in response to inhaled bronchoconstrictor agents. Objective To determine the relationship between the level of plateau obtained with either methacholine or adenosine monophosphate (AMP) and the decrease in FVC induced by each bronchoconstrictor agent. Methods Airway responsiveness to high concentrations of methacholine and AMP was determined in patients with intermittent asthma (n = 41) or allergic rhinitis (n = 26). Furthermore, allergen-induced changes in the response to each bronchoconstrictor agent were investigated in 18 pollen-sensitive patients. Concentration-response curve…
Airborne birch pollen in Poland and Latvia in the light of data obtained from aerobiological monitoring and tauber traps in relation to mean air temp…
2012
Birch pollen contains allergens belonging to those with the strongest allergenic properties. In order to trace pollen season patterns of this taxon and pollen annual sums at a wider regional scale, cooperation was established with the University of Latvia in Riga (Latvia). A comparison of the results obtained in the years 2003-2008 in Lublin and in Riga, using volumetric samplers, shows that there was a similar trend in the abundance of birch pollen. The highest sums were noted at both sites in 2003. In all the study years, more birch pollen grains were recorded in Lublin than in Riga, on the average by 7110. The birch pollen seasons started earlier in Lublin than in Riga, on the average by…
Safety and tolerability of seasonal ultra-rush, high-dose sublingual-swallow immunotherapy in allergic rhinitis to grass and tree pollens: an observa…
2009
We conducted a large observational study in 193 children and adolescents with allergic rhinitis due to grass or tree pollens to evaluate the safety and tolerability of an ultrarush high-dose sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) regimen reaching a maintenance dose of 300 index of reactivity within 90 minutes.Children and adolescents aged 5 to 17 years with at least a 1-year medical history of allergic rhinitis with or without mild to moderate asthma due to tree pollens (birch, alder, hazel) or grass pollens (cocksfoot, meadow grass, rye grass, sweet vernal grass, timothy) were recruited. Standardized grass and tree pollen allergen extracts were used for ultrarush titration and subsequent coseason…
Non-hydrolysable macromolecular constituents from outer walls of Chlorella fusca and Nanochlorum eucaryotum
1992
Abstract Many green microalgae possess a thin trilaminar outer wall (TLS) with a very high resistance to chemical degradation. TLS are known to play an important protective role in living cells. They are also selectively preserved during fossilization and thus provide a major contribution to the fossil organic matter of a number of sedimentary rocks. However, little information is available on TLS chemical structure. Examination of the TLS of Chlorella fusca (a lacustrine Chlorophycea) and of Nanochlorum eucaryotum (a recently discovered marine Chlorophycea) indicated that (i) they exhibit morphological features commonly observed in other green microalgae, (ii) their non-hydrolysable macrom…
Gramineae hay fever, and aerobiological and clinical investigation in Palermo; Sicily
1992
Epidemiological and aerobiological observations (1987;1989) have been carried out for three years in order to search the existing relationship between the Gramineae's daily pollen concentration in Palermo's atmosphere and the number of hay fever cases due to such pollen.

Methods of the investigation of bee pollen and bee bread
2017
The main purpose of this publication was to evaluate which types of studies are used with the purpose of the estimation of nutritional value of bee pollen and bee bread. Bee pollen and bee bread are important bee-products that contains large amounts of nutritional and essential active biological compounds. Among different bioactive compounds with antioxidant properties which could be found in bee pollen and bread are polyphenolic substances, flavonoids, unsaturated acids and carotenoids. Bee pollen and bee bread are investigated by plenty of scientists for different quality indexes over two last decades. However, the composition of bee pollen and bee bread are not yet standardized nor defin…
A review of climate reconstructions from terrestrial climate archives covering the first millennium AD in northwestern Europe
2018
AbstractLarge changes in landscape, vegetation, and culture in northwestern (NW) Europe during the first millennium AD seem concurrent with climatic shifts. Understanding of this relation requires high-resolution palaeoclimate reconstructions. Therefore, we compiled available climate reconstructions from sites across NW Europe (extent research area: 10°W–20°E, 45°–60°N) through review of literature and the underlying data, to identify supraregional climatic changes in this region. All reconstructions cover the period from AD 1 to 1000 and have a temporal resolution of ≤50 yr. This resulted in 22 climate reconstructions/proxy records based on different palaeoclimate archives: chironomids (1)…
