Pharmacokinetic Study on Adenomatous Prostate Tissue Concentrations of Cef operazone
1989
Cephalosporins do not reach active therapeutical concentrations in the prostatic tissue in patients suffering from chronic bacterial prostatitis. Cefoperazone is an exception. Its efficacy in the trea
Clinical implications ofCYP3Apolymorphisms
2006
Due to their enormous substrate spectrum CYP3A4, -3A5 and -3A7 constitute the most important drug-metabolising enzyme subfamily in humans. CYP3As are expressed predominantly, but not exclusively, in the liver and intestine, where they participate in the metabolism of 45 - 60% of currently used drugs and many other compounds such as steroids and carcinogens. CYP3A expression and activity vary interindividually due to a combination of genetic and nongenetic factors such as hormone and health status, and the impact of environmental stimuli. Over the past several years, genetic determinants have been identified for much of the variable expression of CYP3A5 and -3A7, but not for CYP3A4. Using th…

2020
Maahanmuuttajakirjallisuudesta siirtolaiskirjallisuudeksi : siirtolaisuuteen liittyvän kirjallisuuden terminologian perusteet ja uudistaminen
2013
Nyky-Suomessa maahanmuuttajien ja muiden siirtolaisina itseään pitävien kirjoittama kaunokirjallisuus on varsin vähäistä ja muutenkin marginaalista. Siirtolaisuuteen liittyvän kaunokirjallisuuden määrittely on suomen kielessä vakiintumatonta ja ongelmallista. ”Maahanmuuttajakirjallisuus” ja muut nykyisin yleisesti käytössä olevat termit eivät kuvaa ilmiötä riittävän kattavasti ja tarkasti. Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena on analysoida vallitsevaa tilannetta ja siltä pohjalta löytää siirtolaisuuteen liittyvälle kaunokirjallisuudelle sopiva suomenkielinen termi. Siirtolaisuuteen liittyvää kirjallisuutta on vanhastaan kutsuttu ”siirtolaiskirjallisuudeksi”, mutta termi on vakiintunut tarkoittamaa…
Co-culture of rat brain cells as a tool for studying cell-cell interactions
2012
Brain capillary endothelial cells (BCECs) form the blood-brain barrier (BBB) in response to interaction with other brain cells (astrocytes, pericytes and neurons). BCECs are characterized by tight junctions (TJ), maturation and stabilization of which require different proteins, such as occludin. When co-cultured with astrocytes and neurons, BCECs were found to form a monolayer resembling the natural BBB: paracellular flux of dopamine and sucrose (i.e. compounds which are unable to cross the BBB in vivo) significantly decreased (1), while the transendothelial electrical resistance (TEER) increased. In these conditions, BCECs produced a larger amount of occludin and tended to localize it at t…
Fertility and immunosuppression in allogeneic uterus transplantation
2015
Single amino acid substitutions in the glycoprotein B carboxy terminus influence the fusion from without property of herpes simplex virus type 1.
1995
Syncytial mutations of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) strains ANG, ANG path, HFEM, tsB5 and HSZP cause extensive cell fusion and were mapped to the cytoplasmic domain of glycoprotein B (gB), within the syn 3 locus. These strains are so far the only ones which show the phenotype ‘fusion from without’ (FFWO): 60 min after infection with high m.o.i., cells in a tissue culture are fused without transcription and translation of the viral genome. In this report we detected, using the recombinants 27/III and K-7, that an amino acid exchange from Ala to Val at aa position 854 of gB is the main determinant for FFWO activity of strains ANG, ANG path and recombinant K-7. The transfer of this muta…
Mechanisms of irreversible aquaporin-10 inhibition by organogold compounds studied by combined biophysical methods and atomistic simulations
2021
Abstract The inhibition of glycerol permeation via human aquaporin-10 (hAQP10) by organometallic gold complexes has been studied by stopped-flow fluorescence spectroscopy, and its mechanism has been described using molecular modelling and atomistic simulations. The most effective hAQP10 inhibitors are cyclometalated Au(III) C^N compounds known to efficiently react with cysteine residues leading to the formation of irreversible C–S bonds. Functional assays also demonstrate the irreversibility of the binding to hAQP10 by the organometallic complexes. The obtained computational results by metadynamics show that the local arylation of Cys209 in hAQP10 by one of the gold inhibitors is mapped int…
