A high level of power quality in distribution networks is obtained by means of a diagnostic software, that establishes on-line the status of the network, by elaborating the measured data. An efficient telecommunication system is necessary, from whose reliability depends the security of the timely interventions on the network in case of fault. In the paper, after a brief examination of the diagnostic method, the telecommunication system is examined. Template electrodeposition and characterization of nanostructured Pb as a negative electrode for lead-acid battery

Abstract Despite Lead Acid Battery (LAB) is the oldest electrochemical energy storage system, diffusion in the emerging sectors of technological interest is inhibited by its drawbacks. The principal ones are low energy density and negative plate sulphating on high rate discharging. In this work, it is shown the possibility of overcoming such drawbacks by using nanostructured lead as a negative electrode. Lead nanowires (NWs) were fabricated by electrochemical deposition in template, which is an easy, cheap, and easily scalable process. L'objectiu d'aquest treball és descriure el desenvolupament i la validació d'una metodologia per a avaluar la cultura de seguretat per mitjà de l'observació de reunions de treball. Es va partir de la definició de cultura de seguretat més estesa dins el sector (International Atomic Energy Agency, 1991), les cinc dimensions que presenta i els atributs corresponents. La validesa d'aquesta metodologia es posà a prova en una central nuclear mitjançant l'observació d'un total de 36 reunions de treball de naturalesa molt diversa. Aviation Crew Recovery Experiences on Outstations

Abstract ACMI flight crews spend considerable time away from home on outstations. This study suggests that this long term stay carries its own considerations in regards to rest recovery with practical implications for Fatigue Risk Management as prescribed by ICAO. Four recovery experiences, Work Detachment, Control, Relaxation and Mastery, are identified and correlated with 28 crew behaviours on base. The results indicate improvement considerations for airline management organizing a long term contract with ACMI crews, in particular to increase schedule stability to improve the crew member’s sense of Control.

Intervention and peace*

Abstract Intervention often does not lead to peace, but rather to prolonged conflict. Indeed, we document that it is an important source of prolonged conflicts. We introduce a theoretical model of the balance of power to explain why this should be the case and to analyse how peace can be achieved: either a hot peace between hostile neighbours or the peace of the strong dominating the weak. Non-intervention generally leads to peace after defeat of the weak. Hot peace can be achieved with sufficiently strong outside intervention. The latter is thus optimal if the goal of policy is to prevent the strong from dominating the weak.

In the last decade there has been an increasing effort to provide public utilities managers with planning and control tools, to take into account not only operational but also strategic issues. Among them are customer satisfaction, internal business process efficiency, business image, and bargaining power against other counterparts (e.g., the municipal administration).
