Microwave second-harmonic response of ceramic MgB2 samples

Nonlinear microwave response of different ceramic MgB2 samples has been investigated by the technique of second-harmonic emission. The second-harmonic signal has been investigated as a function of temperature, DC magnetic field and input microwave power. The attention has mainly been devoted to the response at low magnetic fields, where nonlinear processes arising from motion of Abrikosov fluxons are ineffective. The results show that different mechanisms are responsible for the nonlinear response in the different ranges of temperature. Vortex-creep activation energy in YBa2Cu3O7/PrBa2Cu3O7 superlattices

Abstract YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 /PrBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 (YBCO/PBCO) superlattices with a different ratio of the superconducting and insulating layer thicknesses were prepared by high pressure dc sputtering. The vortex-creep activation energy U 0 was determined by analyzing the in-plane resistive transition of 200 μm wide bridges with the external magnetic field B oriented along the c axis. It was found that U 0 is proportional to the thickness of the YBCO layers, and does only weakly depend on the PBCO layer thickness, when the latter exceeds two unit cells. Transient DC-Arc Voltage Model in the Hybrid Switch of the DTT Fast Discharge Unit

The focus of this work is the transient modelling of the DC-arc voltage on a Hybrid Switch (a mechanical switch in parallel with a static switch) of a key protection component called Fast Discharge Unit (FDU) in the Divertor Tokamak Test (DTT). The DTT facility is an experimental tokamak in advanced design and realization phase, which will be built in the ENEA Research Centre in Frascati (Italy). The FDU allows the safe discharge of the Toroidal Field (TF) superconducting magnets when a quench is detected or a failure occurs in the power supply or in the cryogenic system. Polymer solution processing of (Bi, Pb)SrCaCuO

Abstract A simple polymer processing route to the 110 K phase (Bi, Pb) 2 Sr 2 Ca 2 Cu 3 O 10+δ superconductor has been developed. The influence of the polymer to metal starting ratio, as well as the sintering temperature and time on the quality of the resulting superconducting powders has been studied by XRD, a.c. susceptibility and resistivity measurements. Microstructure of ceramic compacts has been studied by SEM, and qualitatively analysed by EDS for compositional homogeneity. Ripening-dominated crystallization in polydisperse hard-sphere-like colloids

We report on the crystal growth scenario in gravity-matched, polydisperse hard-sphere-like colloids at increasing particle concentration. In the fluid-crystal coexistence region, the crystal size as a function of time shows two separate regimes corresponding to crystal growth and crystal ripening. At higher supersaturation the crystal size grows according to the same power law through the whole experimental window of a few days: crystal growth and ripening merge together. Diagnosis of inverter-fed induction motors in short time windows using physics-assisted deep learning framework

This article presents a framework for accurate fault diagnostics in inverter-fed induction machinery operating under variable speed and load conditions within very short time windows. Condition indicators based on fault characteristic frequencies observed over the extended Park's vector modulus are fused with deep features extracted using stacked autoencoders to generate a multidimensional feature space for fault classification using support vector machine. Frequency doubling in surface periodically poled lithium niobate waveguides: Competing effects

We fabricated α-phase pro ton-exchanged (PE) lithium niobate (LN) channel waveguides quasi phase-matched (QPM) via surface periodic poling (SPP) and carried out the first experimental demonstration of second harmonic generation (SHG) in such devices.[1] Experiments were performed by employing an optical parametric amplifier/oscillator producing 25 ps pulses in the range 1.1-1.6 μm with a line-width less than 2cm−1 and a repetition rate of 10Hz. Power laws and crossovers in off-critical surface-directed spinodal decomposition.

We study the dynamics of phase separation in binary mixtures near a surface with a preferential attraction for one of the components of the mixture. We obtain detailed numerical results for a range of mixture compositions. In the case where the minority component is attracted to the surface, wetting layer growth is characterized by a crossover from a surface-potential-dependent growth law to a universal law. We formulate a simple phenomenological model to explain our numerical results.
