Business and News Media Perspectives on the Power of Social Media Publics : Case Finland

2018

The Internet, social media, and their varied online publics have affected the working processes of public relations (PR) practitioners and journalists. The digital era has enabled access for various online publics, both individuals and communities, to create, share and search information online and also potentially to increase their communicative power by using networks for influencing, challenging or holding businesses and news media accountable. This interview study investigated Finnish PR practitioners’ and journalists’ perceptions of the potential communicative power of individuals and communities operating on social media and the effects these publics’ online presence and activities ha…

Target Cooling Options for Neutron Sources at High Power Densities

2014

Abstract Compact neutron sources in many cases beat large ones when it comes to power density; thus, many issues concerning cooling are shared, and each party can learn a lot from the other facilities. Starting from accrued experience with water cooling at moderate power densities in SINQ over the last 15 years, a brief overview will be attempted showing the relevant parameters and specific approaches at several existing and planned neutron (spallation) sources. Extensions from the established ground of cooling with water will be sketched in two directions. An outline of an experiment planned for freshly determining in a representative geometry the hard limit for water cooling, i.e. full bo…

Krievijas īstenotā tautiešu politika Latvijā kopš 2000. gada

2016

Competition Advocacy: Soft Power in Competitive Policy

2013

Abstract Changing market conditions stimulate modernization of criteria, norms and standards of competition regulation and methods of enforcement. Competition advocacy is a type of activity exercised by antimonopoly authorities to strengthen competitive environment without enforcement measures, through developing active cooperation with other government bodies and increasing the degree of understanding of the benefits of competition by the community.

Change-Dominant Characteristic of the 21st Century and Essential Factor for Organizational Success

2013

Abstract This paper aims to bring to the forefront change, because it is known that this dominant characteristic of the third millennium has a major impact on the business world, on organizations and on management. In this context, the organizations of the future are changing organizations, they are organizations whose managers have understood the necessity of implementing change and have accepted without reserve the reality that progress requires change.

An Interdisciplinary Approach to the Significance of Digital Economy for Competitiveness in Romanian Rural Area Through E-agriculture

2014

Abstract The digital economy is the key factor in the recovery of the EU economy and especially the Romanian economy. Based on its strengths in technology and knowledge, Europe should exploit the full potential of the digital economy. The digital economy offers great opportunities for SMEs in the manufacturing and service sectors. Therefore, an ambitious Digital Agenda, providing concrete steps to complete the online single market will be a key to sustainable economic recovery and social development of Europe. The understanding of what makes them a success or failure, and how much impact they may have in contributing to the wider rural economy is still relatively poorly developed. What is c…

LightSleepNet: A Lightweight Deep Model for Rapid Sleep Stage Classification with Spectrograms.

2021

Deep learning has achieved unprecedented success in sleep stage classification tasks, which starts to pave the way for potential real-world applications. However, due to its enormous size, deployment of deep neural networks is hindered by high cost at various aspects, such as computation power, storage, network bandwidth, power consumption, and hardware complexity. For further practical applications (e.g., wearable sleep monitoring devices), there is a need for simple and compact models. In this paper, we propose a lightweight model, namely LightSleepNet, for rapid sleep stage classification based on spectrograms. Our model is assembled by a much fewer number of model parameters compared to…

Development of Neural Network Prediction Models for the Energy Producibility of a Parabolic Dish: A Comparison with the Analytical Approach

2022

Solar energy is one of the most widely exploited renewable/sustainable resources for electricity generation, with photovoltaic and concentrating solar power technologies at the forefront of research. This study focuses on the development of a neural network prediction model aimed at assessing the energy producibility of dish–Stirling systems, testing the methodology and offering a useful tool to support the design and sizing phases of the system at different installation sites. Employing the open-source platform TensorFlow, two different classes of feedforward neural networks were developed and validated (multilayer perceptron and radial basis function). The absolute novelty of this approac…
