Sharing pathogenetic mechanisms between acute myocardial infarction and Alzheimer's disease as shown by partially overlapping of gene variant profile…
2011
Abstract Gene variants that promote inflammation and cholesterol metabolism have been associated with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). We investigated a panel of relevant polymorphisms to distinguish genetic backgrounds for AMI and AD: IL10 -1082G/A, IL6 -174G/C, TNF -308G/A, IFNG +874T/A, SERPINA3 -51G/T, HMGCR -911C/A, APOE e2/3/4 (280 AMI cases, 257 AD cases, and 1307 population controls, all Italian (presumed risk alleles are shown in bold). Six genetic risk sets I to VI were identified by fuzzy latent classification: I had low risk; II and III had low risk before age 65 (II, III); low risk sets lacked pro-inflammatory alleles for HMGCR-TNF-APOE. Pro-infla…
Giudizio penale di seconda istanza e giusto processo - Seconda edizione
2008
IL LAVORO SI OCCUPA DELLO STUDIO DEL PROCESSO PENALE DI APPELLO ALLA LUCE DELLA RIFORMA COSTITUZIONALE CHE HA INTRODOOTO IL "GIUSTO PROCESSO" NELL''ART.111. LO STUDIO SI PREFIGGE DI VERIFICARE LA COMPATIBILITA'' DEL SECONDO GIUDIZIO CON IL PRINCIPIO DEL CONTRADDITTORIO E DEGLI ALTRI CANONI FORNDAMENTALI DEL PROCESSO A VOCAZIONE ACCUSATORIA, VISTO L''INNEGABILE FISIONOIMIA DI MECCANISMO DI CRITICA DEL PRIMO GIUDIZIO, COME TALE CARTOLARE E NON ORALE. SI PROPONGOO SOLUZIONI NORMATIVE PER SUPERARE GLI ASPETTI DI FRIZIONE CON IL MODELLO DEL PROCESSO ACCUSATORIO ACCREDITATO IN COSTITUZIONE ALL''ART. 111.
Best approximation and variational inequality problems involving a simulation function
2016
We prove the existence of a g-best proximity point for a pair of mappings, by using suitable hypotheses on a metric space. Moreover, we establish some convergence results for a variational inequality problem, by using the variational characterization of metric projections in a real Hilbert space. Our results are applicable to classical problems of optimization theory.
Mappings of finite distortion : size of the branch set
2018
Abstract We study the branch set of a mapping between subsets of ℝ n {\mathbb{R}^{n}} , i.e., the set where a given mapping is not defining a local homeomorphism. We construct several sharp examples showing that the branch set or its image can have positive measure.
The Nitsche phenomenon for weighted Dirichlet energy
2018
Abstract The present paper arose from recent studies of energy-minimal deformations of planar domains. We are concerned with the Dirichlet energy. In general the minimal mappings need not be homeomorphisms. In fact, a part of the domain near its boundary may collapse into the boundary of the target domain. In mathematical models of nonlinear elasticity this is interpreted as interpenetration of matter. We call such occurrence the Nitsche phenomenon, after Nitsche’s remarkable conjecture (now a theorem) about existence of harmonic homeomorphisms between annuli. Indeed the round annuli proved to be perfect choices to grasp the nuances of the problem. Several papers are devoted to a study of d…
A novel thermodynamic approach for the complexation study of toxic metal cations by a landfill leachate
2018
Landfill leachates can contaminate nearby aquifers. The hazards deriving from this contamination also depend on the chemical speciation of various contaminants. A novel approach is proposed here to face this problem from a chemical thermodynamics point of view. The complexing ability of the soluble fraction of a landfill leachate (collected from Bellolampo, Palermo, Italy) towards Pb2+, Cd2+ and Cu2+ has been investigated at T = 298.15 K in NaClaq at I = 0.1 mol dm−3. The soluble fraction of the landfill leachate was first characterized by different analytical techniques. Then, its acid–base properties were studied by ISE-H+ potentiometric titrations and modelled by the so-called diprotic-l…
Reducing Mortality of Shrews in Rodent Live Trapping — a Method Increasing Live-Trap Selectivity with Shrew Exits
2013
Shrews have very high metabolic rates and are often unintentionally starved in rodent live-traps during capture-mark-recapture (CMR) studies. Here, we suggest a shrew exit as a modification to rodent traps. To test whether this modification is (1) saving shrews and (2) not jeopardizing results of rodent captures, we compared captures in Ugglan traps with and without shrew exits, studying bank voles (Myodes glareolus) in a spruce forest in central Finland. Numbers of captured bank voles and body size of smallest juvenile bank voles were not affected by the shrew exit, while the number of captured common shrews (Sorex araneus) was reduced from 31 to 0 individuals per 100 trap nights. However,…
Nitrogen Transfer Is Enhanced By AMF Fungi In A Faba Bean/Wheat Intercropping
2018
Intercropping is an agricultural practice that can offer several benefits allowing a better native resources use efficiency and, consequently, a restraint of the auxiliary inputs and often a greater production compared to the monocultures (Brooker et al. 2015). Several authors observed that, in a legume/non-legume mixture, one of the benefits could be the N transfer (up to 80 % of the non-legume N demand; Thilakarathna et al. 2016). The transfer may occur via different pathways: legume rhizodeposition, plant tissue decomposition and direct transfer through arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) (Bedoussac et al. 2015). The latter, can simultaneously establish symbiotic relationship with differe…
Exploring automatic grouping procedures in ceramic petrology
2004
Although a small number of studies have attempted to introduce automatic grouping procedures into thin section petrography of archaeological ceramics, the majority of studies continue to be carried out by non-automatic means. Although such an approach with the single observer grouping samples has a number of advantages, it is problematic when dealing with large numbers of samples. This paper aims to explore different coding systems and statistical analyses for grouping ceramic thin sections. In the example discussed a number of variables are defined, codified and analysed by correspondence analysis, classical multidimensional scaling, non-metric isotonic multidimensional scaling and Sammon …
