Data from: The oxidative cost of reproduction depends on early development oxidative stress and sex in a bird species
2016
In the early 2000’s, a new component of the cost of reproduction was proposed: oxidative stress. Since then the oxidative cost of reproduction hypothesis has, however, received mixed support. Different arguments have been provided to explain this. Among them, the lack of a life history perspective on most experimental tests was suggested. We manipulated the levels of a key intracellular antioxidant (glutathione) in captive zebra finches (Taeniopygia guttata) during a short period of early life and subsequently tested the oxidative cost of reproduction. Birds were allowed to mate freely in an outdoor aviary during several months. We repeatedly enlarged or reduced their broods to increase or …
Dataset related to article "Development and external validation of a clinical prediction model for functional impairment after intracranial tumor sur…
2021
Anonymised clinical database containing information (Age, sex, prior surgery, tumor histology and maximum diameter, expected major brain vessel or cranial nerve manipulation, resection in eloquent areas and the posterior fossa, and surgical approach were recorded) about patients of Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Besta analysed for the article “Development and external validation of a clinical prediction model for functional impairment after intracranial tumor surgery”
A Feasible Framework for Maintenance Digitalization
2023
The entire industry is changing as a result of new developments in digital technology, and maintenance management is a crucial procedure that may take advantage of the opportunities brought about by industrial digitalization. To support digital innovation in maintenance management, this study intends to meet the cutting-edge necessity of addressing a transformation strategy in industrial contexts. Setting up a customized pathway with adequate methodologies, digitalization tools, and collaboration between the several stakeholders involved in the maintenance environment is the first step in this process. The results of a previous conference contribution, which revealed important digitalizatio…
Explainable AI for Industry 4.0 : Semantic Representation of Deep Learning Models
2022
Artificial Intelligence is an important asset of Industry 4.0. Current discoveries within machine learning and particularly in deep learning enable qualitative change within the industrial processes, applications, systems and products. However, there is an important challenge related to explainability of (and, therefore, trust to) the decisions made by the deep learning models (aka black-boxes) and their poor capacity for being integrated with each other. Explainable artificial intelligence is needed instead but without loss of effectiveness of the deep learning models. In this paper we present the transformation technique between black-box models and explainable (as well as interoperable) …
Adaptive Methodology for Designing a Predictive Model of Cardiac Arrhythmia Symptoms Based on Cubic Neural Unit
2017
A cubic neural unit is a kind of a higher-order neural unit which can be used for prediction tasks among others, in the medical field. The example of the tasks includes monitoring cardiac behavior in real-time either for preemptive treatment, or for supporting a doctor to reach a more accurate diagnosis. We propose a predictive model which has been developed as an application in open source code with the aim to make it publicly accessible for research community and medical professionals and also to decrease the implementation cost. The proposed model uses sample-by-sample adaptation of the gradient descent method with error backpropagation. This paper presents an application of a cubic neur…

Computation of the regime configuration of a meandering stream
2004
Regime channel formation is a delicate adaptation to the imposed environmental conditions compatible with flow and sediment transport mechanisms. The present paper concerns the computation of the regime configuration of a meandering stream. It is supposed that the channel develops until it reaches the state of “final thermodynamic equilibrium”, where the ratio of the kinetic energy of the flow to its cross-sectional potential energy is minimum. An optimization procedure that allows the analysis of the regime channel formation is presented and it is checked using a real case.
DEVELOPMENT & QUALIFICATION OF BIOASSAYS FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE BIOACTIVITY, PREDICTIVE PHARMACOKINETICS AND POTENTIAL IMMUNOGENICITY OF THERAP…
2021
The critical quality attributes of a given biotherapeutic monoclonal antibody (mAb), its molecular characterization, functional assessment and effector function analysis should be defined and profiled in detail during the life cycle of a biotherapeutic drug. In the past, this product characterization was simple and standardized. In today’s complex world of biologics, success demands a more thoughtful approach and drug developers are investing in advanced analytics much earlier in the development process. Indeed, investing in selected sophisticated and state of the art analytics in early developmental phases of a therapeutic monoclonal antibody may mitigate risks by confirming that the drug …
Resolving reading disability : Childhood predictors and adult-age outcomes
2019
We examined frequency of adult‐age reading disability (RD) and its childhood predictors among 48 adults (20 to 39 years) with documented childhood RD, and contrasted their cognitive skills, education, and employment with 37 matched controls. Among individuals with childhood RD, more than half had improved in their reading fluency to the level where the set criterion for adult‐age RD was not met anymore. More fluent rapid naming, less severe childhood RD, and multiple support providers in childhood together predicted improvement of reading fluency. More fluent naming differentiated the childhood RD participants whose reading fluency had improved by adult‐age from those participants whose RD …
