Rapid left ventricular filling in untreated hypertensive subjects with or without left ventricular hypertrophy

In this study, independent contribution of age, HR, BMI, casual and ambulatory blood pressure, LVM and LVEF in evaluating diastolic filling have been investigated in 34 never-treated hypertensive patients and in 15 healthy normotensive subjects. All the subjects were free from coronary artery disease, valvular disease, heart failure, renal disease and psychiatric problems. All the hypertensive subjects (never treated) were subgrouped according to presence or absence of LVH. The PFR decreased significantly and tPFR increased significantly in hypertensive patients in comparison with normotensive subjects and they did not change in the presence vs absence of LVH. Our aim was the assessment of the prognostic significance of right heart thrombi (RiHT) and their characteristics in pulmonary embolism in relation to established prognostic factors.138 patients (69 females) aged (mean±sd) 62±19 years with RiHT were included into a multicenter registry. A control group of 276 patients without RiHT was created by propensity scoring from a cohort of 963 contemporary patients. An automated column-switching technique coupled to isocratic high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with fluorescence detection was developed for simultaneous determination of dextromethorphan and its three major metabolites, dextrorphan, hydroxymorphinan, and methoxymorphinan. Abstract Purpose: To evaluate the feasibility and safety of using phakic intraocular lenses (IOLs) to correct high myopia by comparing 3 IOL models: Adatomed, Staar, and Artisan. Setting: La Fe University Hospital, Department of Ophthalmology, and the Fundacion Oftalmologica del Mediterraneo, Valencia, Spain. Methods: In this prospective comparative study, a phakic IOL was implanted in 217 highly myopic eyes (118 patients). Abstract One hundred and thirty-three eyes of 103 patients had photorefractive keratectomy with a slit scan mode excimer laser for myopia ranging from −6.00 to −22.00 diopters (D). The epithelium was removed with 20% ethanol, and the ablation was done with a tapered profile surrounding the optical zone. Patients were divided into two groups based on preoperative myopia: Group A, −6.00 D to −12.00 D (88 eyes); Group B, −12.50 D to −22.00 D (45 eyes). In Group A, mean preoperative refraction was −9.59 ± 1.79 D. Purpose To present the 4-year follow-up results in the surgical treatment of hypotony following trabeculectomy with mitomycin C in glaucoma patients with additional flap sutures. Design Retrospective interventional case series. Methods Since 2006, 53 patients with hypotony maculopathy attributable to overfiltration following glaucoma surgery (trabeculectomy with mitomycin C) were included in this institutional study.
