Effect of a diet intervention during pregnancy on dietary behavior in the randomized controlled Norwegian Fit for Delivery study.

2016

A mother’s diet during pregnancy has the potential to influence both her own and her child’s short- and long-term health. This paper reports the effects of a randomized controlled diet intervention during pregnancy on dietary behavior post-intervention as reported in late pregnancy. The diet intervention was part of a lifestyle intervention targeting both diet and physical activity behaviors among nulliparous women participating in the randomized controlled Norwegian Fit for Delivery study (NFFD). Eligible women were enrolled in early pregnancy from eight healthcare clinics in southern Norway between 2009 and 2013. The diet intervention was based on 10 dietary recommendations that were conv…

Sonographische Diagnose eines Holoakardius

2008

In the 28th week of gestation a normal foetus and a holoacardius were diagnosed via sonography in a biamnotic monochoriatic twin pregnancy. The growth of the foetuses was observed under continuous sonographic control up to the 40th week of pregnancy. The patient delivered a healthy twin by Caesarean section and the acardius was subjected to a postmortem. Macroscopic and histological findings in the foetus, the placenta and the umbilical cords are demonstrated. The pathogenesis of the holoacardius is discussed as being due to chromosomal aberrations and foeto-foetal transfusion syndrome.

Strategies for managing Asherman's syndrome and endometrial atrophy: Since the classical experimental models to the new bioengineering approach

2021

Endometrial function is essential for embryo implantation and pregnancy, but managing endometrial thickness that is too thin to support pregnancy or an endometrium of compromised functionality due to intrauterine adhesions is an ongoing challenge in reproductive medicine. Here, we review current and emerging therapeutic and experimental options for endometrial regeneration with a focus on animal models used to study solutions for Asherman's syndrome and endometrial atrophy, which both involve a damaged endometrium. A review of existing literature was performed that confirmed the lack of consensus on endometrial therapeutic options, though promising new alternatives have emerged in recent ye…

Additive effect of factors related to assisted conception on the reduction of maternal serum pregnancy-associated plasma protein A concentrations and…

2013

Objective To analyze whether assisted conceptions need adjustments in first-trimester Down syndrome screening and why modifications in screening markers occur. Design Eleven-year cohort retrospective analysis. Setting Maternal-fetal medicine unit. Patient(s) Two thousand eleven naturally conceived normal singleton pregnancies and 2,042 normal singleton pregnancies achieved with assisted conception: 350 by IUI and 1,692 with IVF (n = 328) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI; n=1,364), using nondonor (n = 1,086) or donated ova (n = 606), with fresh (n = 1,432) or frozen (n = 260) embryos. The Human Blastocyst Regulates Endometrial Epithelial Apoptosis in Embryonic Adhesion1

2000

The implanting blastocyst must appose and adhere to the endometrial epithelium and, subsequently, invade it. Locally regulated uterine epithelial apoptosis induced by the embryo is a crucial step of the epithelial invasion in rodents. To address the physiological relevance of this process in humans, we investigated the effect of single human blastocysts on the regulation of apoptosis in cultured human endometrial epithelial cells (hEEC) in both apposition and adhesion phases of implantation. Here, we report a co-ordinated embryonic regulation of hEEC apoptosis. In the apposition phase, the presence of a blastocyst rescues hEEC from the apoptotic pathway. However, when the human blastocyst a…

Bibliometric analysis of leishmaniasis research in Medline (1945-2010)

2012

Background Publications are often used as a measure of success of research work. Leishmaniasis is considered endemic in 98 countries, most of which are developing. This article describes a bibliometric review of the literature on leishmaniasis research indexed in PubMed during a 66-year period. Methods Medline was used via the PubMed online service of the US National Library of Medicine. The search strategy was Leishmania [MeSH] or leishmaniasis [MeSH] from 1 January 1945 until 31 December 2010. Neither language nor document type restrictions were employed. Results A total of 20,780 references were retrieved. The number of publications increased steadily over time, with 3,380 publications f…

Hemostasis in brain tumor surgery using the Aquamantys system

2014

Background: Adequate hemostasis in cranial and spinal tumor surgery is of paramount importance in neurosurgical practice. Generalized ooze bleeding from the surgical walls cavity, coming from neoplastic vessels or nervous tissue, may be problematic. Recent technical advances have dramatically reduced intraoperative complications related to blood loss. Several techniques are usually employed to control hemostasis in tumor surgery, including preoperative embolization, intraoperative hypotension, electrical coagulation, and local application of fibrin sealants or hemostatic matrix, which influence coagulation. Material/Methods: Our aim in this study was to evaluate the efficacy and the safety …
