Possibilities for Intervention in Domestic Violence: Frame Analysis of Health Care Professionals’ Attitudes

2014

ABSTRACT. Violence is a serious problem, and social and health care providers are in a key position for implementing successful interventions. This qualitative study of 6 focus groups with professionals (n = 30) examines the health care professionals’ ways of framing a domestic violence intervention. Of special interest here is how professionals see their own roles in the process of recognizing and helping victims of domestic violence. By using Erving Goffman's frame analysis, this study identifies several frames that either: a) emphasize the obstacles to intervention and justify nonintervention, or on the contrary, b) question these obstacles and find justifications for intervention. The p…

2022

AbstractChildren with neurodevelopmental disorders often have social-emotional and behavioural difficulties. The present study explored these difficulties in children (n = 50, aged 6–10 years) with autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and developmental language disorder. Parents, teachers and therapists evaluated children’s social-emotional and behavioural difficulties through a self-devised questionnaire and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire. Additionally, the children, along with their typically developing age peers (n = 106), completed six emotion discrimination tasks. Social media influencer: a new hybrid professionalism in the age of platform capitalism?

2023

International audience; Chapter 13 Social media influencer: a new hybrid professionalism in the age of platform capitalism? by P. Sedda and O. Husson, analyses the way social media influencers, acting in the context of communities of practice, participate in redefining professionalism and professional practices in marketing and communications fields while promoting social values or advocating for a cause of public interest. Using a methodological approach based on interviews and ethnographic observation, the study considers the influencer as a specific case of “hybrid professionalism” (Noordegraaf 2007) in which quantitative performance criteria, prescribed by platforms, are combined with c…

The social mediators: limits and challenges of a system

2011

Following a study aimed at measuring the limits and challenges of the social mediation system, the authors put forward an examination in this article of the mutual expectations of the social mediator and its employer, the urban community. This sociological study is comprehensive: it uses the method of the individual interview and focus group. The analysis of the results is supported by contributions from Boltanski and Thévenot in order to compare the reference “worlds” of both types of actor. It is supplemented by the analysis of notions of “system” (Foucault) and “professionalisation” (Hainaux et al., Bartoli). The authors try to understand the extent to which the actors understand involve…

“Without social there is no health”: Social work perspectives in multidisciplinary healthcare

2022

The pandemic has not just affected the health sphere: strong social effects of the emergency have added to the health risk, stressing on social relations and the deterioration of people's living conditions, and making those who are already fragile more fragile. Notwithstanding, during the emergency following the COVID-19 pandemic the attention was focused, indeed understandably, on the health aspects, widening the already existing misalignment between the health interventions and the social ones. Emergency oriented efforts and resources more toward a clinical care approach (cure) than toward support for the social and the inclusion aspects (care). Reflecting on the specific area of health c…

LA INCLUSIÓN DEL MÉDICO EN LA FORMACIÓN DEL INTÉRPRETE EN EL ÁMBITO SANITARIO

2017

Between Private and Public : Corporate art collecting and collaboration with art museums in Finland

2021

In this chapter, I discuss corporate art collections as part of national cultural heritage and semi-public collections. Corporate art is seen through the lenses of collecting, various professions and corporate social responsibility (CSR). I highlight the motives and the meanings of visual art in the context of business and practices of collection development, with the similarities and differences to museums and the museum profession. The essence of corporate art collecting is connected with business objectives, and thus this field of collecting differs in many ways from the objectives of museum collections and ethics. The main motives for corporate art collecting are aesthetics, well-being,…

EFL Teacher Education in Finland : Manifestations of Professional Agency in Teacher Educators’ Work

2020

English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teacher educators play a key role in the development of university-based teacher education and the preparation of preservice EFL teachers. However, the professional agency of EFL teacher educators in developing their work remains understudied. Employing a Vygotskian sociocultural theoretical perspective, this research considers the individual and collective professional agency of eight EFL teacher educators at two Finnish universities. Findings demonstrate that individual professional agency is enacted in the expression of professional identity and the development of professional relationships, and in offering and receiving professional assistance. Findin…

Periodismo especializado y especialización política

2015
