Eribulin mesylate use as third-line therapy in patients with metastatic breast cancer (VESPRY): a prospective, multicentre, observational study
2019
Background: In real-world practice, eribulin mesylate provides significant survival benefit, with a manageable safety profile in heavily pretreated patients with metastatic breast cancer (MBC). Methods: In this prospective, open-label, multicentre, observational study we evaluated the effectiveness and tolerability of eribulin as third-line treatment in a homogeneous population. The primary endpoints were the safety profile and response in metastatic sites; secondary endpoints included the response in different subtypes, overall response rate (ORR), progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Results: From 2013 to 2016, 118 women were treated in 21 Sicilian institutions; the …
Sorafenib for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma
2018
SUMMARY The multikinase inhibitor sorafenib, which inhibits targets related to tumor cell proliferation and angiogenesis, was the first systemic agent to demonstrate a significant improvement in the overall survival for patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in two large randomized controlled Phase III trials. Together with its manageable safety profile (mainly diarrhea, hand–foot skin reaction and fatigue), sorafenib was approved for the treatment of patients with (unresectable) HCC in 2007. Since then, sorafenib has been established as the standard of care in Child–Pugh A patients with advanced HCC or in those ineligible for or after failure of locoregional therapies in th…

Lipoprotein(a) – Marker for cardiovascular risk and target for lipoprotein apheresis
2019
Lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) consists of an LDL particle whose apolipoprotein B (apoB) is covalently bound to apolipoprotein(a) (apo[a]). An increased Lp(a) concentration is a causal, independent risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and a predictor of incident or recurrent cardiovascular events. Although Lp(a) was first described as early as 1963, only the more recent results of epidemiological, molecular, and genetic studies have led to this unequivocal conclusion. More than 20% of Western populations have elevated Lp(a) values. Lp(a) concentrations should be always part of the lipid profile when ASCVD risk is assessed. However, presence of other risk factors, laborator…

Navigating high-choice European political information environments : a comparative analysis of news user profiles and political knowledge
2021
The transition from low- to high-choice media environments has had far-reaching implications for citizens’ media use and its relationship with political knowledge. However, there is still a lack of comparative research on how citizens combine the usage of different media and how that is related to political knowledge. To fill this void, we use a unique cross-national survey about the online and offline media use habits of more than 28,000 individuals in 17 European countries. Our aim is to (i) profile different types of news consumers and (ii) understand how each user profile is linked to political knowledge acquisition. Our results show that five user profiles – news minimalists, social m…
Revealing Employer’s Name in Social Networks
2017
Abstract The research investigates the question of the importance of mentioning the name of the employer in online and offline social networks. The exchange of information is an important part of social networks and social capital theory. Companies can use the networks of their employees to recruit new hires and to check habits and interests of likely new employees. To do that, the employee has to mention the name of the company in these social networks. The paper compares different real social networks used by family and friends and private and business social network sites (SNSs) as online social networks and compares the differences between men and women. The empirical research has been …
Theoretical profiles of the Mg + resonance lines perturbed by collisions with He
2016
International audience; The effects of collision broadening by He are central to understanding the opacity of cool stellar atmospheres. Aims. DZ white dwarfs show metal lines which are, in many cases, believed to come from some rocky material, a remnant of a former exoplanetary system. The analysis of the Mg + resonance lines is a valuable method to determine the chemical abundances in these systems. Methods. Unified profiles of the strongest of the UV lines of Mg + have been calculated in the semi-classical approach using very recent ab initio potential energies. Results. We present the first theoretical line profile calculations of the resonance lines of Mg + that have been perturbed by h…
