Two Overwatch Player Profiles
2022
AbstractWe pursue Overwatch player profiles via a statistical cluster analysis of survey data from the UK (N = 1089) and the USA (N = 417). The profiles are based on the players’ activity, challenge, and experiential preferences as well as motivations. Our analytical process produces six esports player clusters, two of which with Overwatch. The first (OW1) plays mainly Overwatch and Fortnite on a console, and they enjoy diverse types of non-competitive play elements more than other esports players. The second cluster (OW2) plays mainly Overwatch and League of Legends on a PC, and despite appearing more “competitive”, they did not report more competitive preferences. We suggest that the alle…
Enzyme-assisted extraction of proteins from Citrus fruits and prediction of their cultivar using protein profiles obtained by capillary gel electroph…
2017
Abstract The suitability of protein profiles established by capillary gel electrophoresis (CGE) as a tool to discriminate between 11 cultivars of Citrus (orange and tangerine) peel and pulp was evaluated in this work. Before CGE analysis, different extraction buffers (which included enzyme-assisted treatments) were compared. The best results were achieved using 5% ( v/v ) Celluclast ® 1.5 L and 5% ( v/v ) Palatase ® 20,000 L buffers for Citrus peel and pulp protein extracts, respectively. The resulting protein profiles obtained were used to construct linear discriminant analysis (LDA) models able to distinguish Citrus peel and pulp samples according to their cultivar. In both cases, all sam…
Developmental and biochemical studies on the phenylalanine hydroxylation system in Drosophila melanogaster
1992
Abstract The enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase, the substrate phenylalanine, the product of the reaction tyrosine, and the probable in vivo cofactors (6R)- l -erytro-5,6,7,8-tetrahydrobiopterin (H4Bip) and 5,6,7,8-tetrahydropterin (H4Ptr), have been measured during development in Drosophila. The developmental profile of phenylalanine hydroxylase activity shows two peaks. The larger occurs at the time of pupation, coiciding with an important accumulation of tyrosine in the insect. The minor peak appears at the time of adult emergence. The developmental profile of H4Bip shows also two peaks, coinciding with those of maximal phenylalanine hydroxylase activity. However, H4Ptr is only detectable …
CO2 as a C1-organic building block: Electrocarboxylation of aromatic ketones. A quantitative study of the effect of the concentration of substrate an…
2006
The purpose of this work is to establish and discuss quantitative relationships between the selectivity in preparative scale electrolysis and intrinsic and operational parameters for the electrocarboxylation of aromatic ketones. For the investigated ketones, under appopriate experimental conditions the selectivity of the process is mainly determined by the competition between carboxylation and protonation, de-halogenation reactions (when an halogenated ketone is involved), and possibly dimerizations involving the electrogenerated radical anion. A simple model was proposed to account for these unwanted side paths which allows to predict the dependence of the selectivity as a function of the …

The Aqua-Planet Experiment (APE): Response to Changed Meridional SST Profile
2013
This paper explores the sensitivity of Atmospheric General Circulation Model (AGCM) simulations to changes in the meridional distribution of sea surface temperature (SST). The simulations are for an aqua-planet, a water covered Earth with no land, orography or sea- ice and with specified zonally symmetric SST. Simulations from 14 AGCMs developed for Numerical Weather Prediction and climate applications are compared. Four experiments are performed to study the sensitivity to the meridional SST profile. These profiles range from one in which the SST gradient continues to the equator to one which is flat approaching the equator, all with the same maximum SST at the equator. The zonal mean circ…
Sporadic and Familial Variants in NF1: An Explanation of the Wide Variability in Neurocognitive Phenotype?
2020
Background: Cognitive impairment is the most common neurological manifestation in NF1 and occurs in 30-70% of NF1 cases. The onset and severity of each specific cognitive deficit varies greatly from child to child, with no apparent external causes. The wide variability of phenotype is the most complex aspect in terms of management and care. Despite multiple research, the mechanism underlying the high heterogeneity in NF1 has not yet been elucidated. While many studies have focused on the effects of specific and precise genetic mutations on the NF1 phenotype, little has been done on the impact of NF1 transmission (sporadic vs. familial cases). We used a complete neuropsychological evaluation…
A Uniform Conspiracy Mindset or Differentiated Reactions to Specific Conspiracy Beliefs? Evidence From Latent Profile Analyses
2021
Conspiracy theories arise for virtually any public event (e.g., pandemics, assassinations, disasters). In light of positively correlated endorsements of such beliefs, many have pointed to a more general mindset behind this. Others have argued against this notion of a consistent mindset. Applying Latent Profile Analyses, we examine the evidence for either uniform or differentiated response patterns to various items in five studies (reanalyzed datasets, total N = 7877). Overall, the results speak strongly to uniform reactions that could be summarized as a general mindset, but also revealed important qualifications. First, small parts of the samples show more differentiated patterns in relatio…
Importance of food labeling as a means of information and traceability according to consumers
2015
Consumption patterns have considerably changed over recent years. We are witnessing more and more frequently to a lack of information (i.e. information asymmetry) between food producers and consumers, this generate in the consumer the latter need to access information related to processes of production of food and food distribution. Decisionmaking, in absence of further information, leads consumers to pay attention to food labeling. Food labels become the only tool for consumers to acquire additional information about products in order to make the purchase decision. In today’s modern and globalized market, labels limitations can be partially overcome by using Mobile Marketing tools, such as…
Students evaluating Internet sources – From versatile evaluators to uncritical readers
2008
The Internet is a significant information resource for students due to the ease of access it allows to a vast amount of information. As the quality of the information on the Internet varies, it is important that students are able to evaluate such information critically. The aim of the study was to investigate how students evaluate Internet sources in an authentic learning task. Upper secondary school students ( n = 25) were asked to look for source material on the Internet in order to write an essay. They were asked to verbalize their thoughts during the material gathering process. Their verbalizations and actions on the Internet were recorded and analyzed. The five evaluation profiles eme…
