ICTV Virus Taxonomy Profile: Polycipiviridae

2019

Polycipiviridae is a family of picorna-like viruses with non-segmented, linear, positive-sense RNA genomes of approximately 10–12 kb. Unusually for viruses within the order Picornavirales, their genomes are polycistronic, with four (or more) consecutive 5′-proximal open reading frames (ORFs) encoding structural (and possibly other) proteins and a long 3′ ORF encoding the replication polyprotein. Members of species within the family have all been detected in ants or via arthropod transcriptomic datasets. This is a summary of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) Report on the Polycipiviridae, which is available at www.ictv.global/report/polycipiviridae.

Cytokines and growth factors in wound drainage fluid from patients undergoing incisional hernia repair.

2006

Knowing the dynamics of growth factor and cytokine secretion within the site of a surgical operation is important, as they play a crucial role in the pathophysiology of wound healing and are a target for modifying the repair response. The aim of this study was to evaluate the production of several cytokines and growth factors in the drainage wound fluid from patients undergoing incisional hernia repair: namely, interleukin (IL)-6, IL-10, IL-1alpha, IL-1 ra, interferon-gamma, vascular endothelial growth factors and basic fibroblast growth factor. Ten female patients with abdominal midline incisional hernia undergoing surgical repair were included in this study. In all cases, a closed-suction…

Evaluating the Performances of Small Wind Turbines: A Case Study in the South of Italy

2012

AbstractAmong renewable energy resources, wind energy became more attractive in the last decade. Wind farms installations dramatically increased in areas where climatic conditions, topography and environment have allowed their development. The installation of wind turbines, usually carried out in remote areas, recently began to cover areas identified by a complex terrain such as urban and suburban zones. Although these new sites’ choices are characterized by lower productivity there is increasing interest in wind energy production in both urban and suburban area. In this work the authors have carried out an energy analysis developed from a sample of small wind turbines available on the mark…

The Nature of Rest Silanol Groups on the Surfaces of Silica Based Solid Phase Extraction Materials

2013

Author's version of an article in the journal: Advanced Materials Research. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.4028/www.scientific.net/AMR.650.66 Chemically bonded solid phase materials are very important in separation chemistry. The chemically modified silica gel contains rest silanol groups that can affect the retention properties when they are used for separation of compounds. Some commercially available solid phase extraction (SPE) materials based on silica gel were analysed for rest silanol groups by near infrared spectroscopy. The combination frequency of the water molecules in the 5500- 5000 cm -1 region was used in identifying the nature of water molecules on…

Human NCL Neuropathology

2015

AbstractThe neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (NCL) currently encompass fourteen genetically different forms, CLN1 to CLN14, but are all morphologically marked by loss of nerve cells, particularly in the cerebral and cerebellar cortices, and the cerebral and extracerebral formation of lipopigments. These lipopigments show distinct ultrastructural patterns, i.e., granular, curvilinear/rectilinear and fingerprint profiles. They contain−although to a different degree among the different CLN forms−subunit C of ATP synthase, saposins A and D, and beta-amyloid proteins. Extracerebral pathology, apart from lipopigment formation, which provides diagnostic information, is scant or non-existent. The ret…

Découverte des relations dans les réseaux sociaux

2011

In recent years, social network sites exploded in popularity and become an important part of the online activities on the web. This success is related to the various services/functionalities provided by each site (ranging from media sharing, tagging, blogging, and mainly to online social networking) pushing users to subscribe to several sites and consequently to create several social networks for different purposes and contexts (professional, private, etc.). Nevertheless, current tools and sites provide limited functionalities to organize and identify relationship types within and across social networks which is required in several scenarios such as enforcing users’ privacy, and enhancing t…

A TEST of the NATURE of the FE K LINE in the NEUTRON STAR LOW-MASS X-RAY BINARY SERPENS X-1

2015

Broad Fe K emission lines have been widely observed in the X-ray spectra of black hole systems, and in neutron star systems as well. The intrinsically narrow Fe K fluorescent line is generally believed to be part of the reflection spectrum originating in an illuminated accretion disk, and broadened by strong relativistic effects. However, the nature of the lines in neutron star LMXBs has been under debate. We therefore obtained the longest, high-resolution X-ray spectrum of a neutron star LMXB to date with a 300 ks Chandra HETGS observation of Serpens X-1. The observation was taken under the "continuous clocking" mode and thus free of photon pile-up effects. We carry out a systematic analys…

Identification of a prognostic gene signature associated with MBP-1 expression in ErbB2-negative breast carcinomas

2014

The ENO1 transcript, which encodes the glycolitic enzyme alpha-enolase, can be translated into a shorter nuclear protein called Myc-promoter Binding Protein-1 (MBP-1) by using an alternative translation start site. MBP-1 acts as a negative regulator of c-Myc, ErbB2 and Cox2 genes (1). Several evidences indicate that MBP-1 acts as a tumor suppressor in breast carcinoma and prostate cancer and its expression results in a reduced invasive ability (2). In our previous studies, we showed that MBP-1 is expressed and easily detectable in normal breast epithelial cells, but a loss of expression occurs in most primary invasive ductal carcinomas (IDC) of the breast. Furthermore, in these tumors MBP-1…
