Atteinte de la Muscularis Mucosae dans les tumeurs urothéliales T1 de vessie : facteur pronostique de progression après immunothérapie par BCG

2012

OBJECTIVES: To study the prognostic impact of muscularis mucosae (MM) invasion for pT1 bladder cancer treated by transurethral resection (TUR) and adjuvant Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) intravesical immunotherapy. METHODS: Sixty-six patients treated by BCG intravesical instillations were substaged into pT1a and pT1b, regarding Muscularis Mucosae invasion. Tumor grade, associated carcinoma in situ (CIS), multifocality, tumoral size up to 3cm, BCG maintenance were noted. With a mean follow-up of 50.5±38 months, we studied recurrence, progression, overall and specific survival. Cox's model method was used for multivariate analysis. RESULTS: Tumor recurrence was observed in 30±7% and 43±10% (P=…

Sustained Responses and Resistance to Imatinib Mesylate in the First 173 Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Patients Accrued by the SCREEN Multicenter Study: F…

2009

Abstract Abstract 4276 Introduction Imatinib mesylate (IM) has shown unprecedented effectiveness in the treatment of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) patients (pts) in the chronic phase of the disease. As most of the data concerning the efficacy of the drug derive either from a single sponsored trial or from single institution reports, we decided to accrue all CML pts diagnosed in the Italian region of Sicily to the observational SCREEN (Siciliy CML Regional Enterprise) study, to evaluate the hematological, cytogenetic and molecular responses of this unselected population to IM. Patients and Methods Although the study is still ongoing, 173 consecutive CML pts have been enrolled between Januar…

Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation for T Cell Lymphomas: Improved Results Overtime

2019

INTRODUCTION: Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloSCT) is the only curative strategy for relapsed/refractory T cell lymphoma (T-NHL). In the past ten years, there have been several improvements in conditioning regimens and graft versus host disease prophylaxis (GVHD), which have contributed to lower transplant-related mortality (TRM). Also, selective and low toxicity therapies, might improve response quality in some T-NHL Recently, haploidentical stem cell transplantation (Haplo) with post-transplant cyclophosphamide is a new option for those patients who do not have an HLA-identical sibling or a suitable unrelated donor, but also it has shortened the time for urgent cas…

American Association Of Clinical Endocrinologists, American College Of Endocrinology, And Androgen Excess And Pcos Society Disease State Clinical Rev…

2015

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is recognized as the most common endocrine disorder of reproductive-aged women around the world. This document, produced by the collaboration of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) and the Androgen Excess and PCOS Society (AES) aims to highlight the most important clinical issues confronting physicians and their patients with PCOS. It is a summary of current best practices in 2015. PCOS has been defined using various criteria, including menstrual irregularity, hyperandrogenism, and polycystic ovary morphology (PCOM). General agreement exists among specialty society guidelines that the diagnosis of PCOS must be based on the presence o…

Cavernous malformation of the optic chiasm: An uncommon location

2015

Background: Cavernous malformations (CMs) of the optic chiasm are rare lesions often presenting with acute chiasmal syndrome or a progressive visual loss. The case of a 48-year-old female with an intrachiasmatic CM is presented. Case Description: The patient presented with an insidious history of progressive visual loss. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a CM in the suprasellar region. The patient was operated via a right pterional approach with a complete lesion removal. The postoperative course was uneventful. Early postoperative ophthalmological examination revealed minimal improvement of the vision in the left eye. Conclusion: The clinical, neuroradiological, and intraoperative fi…

Preoperative Botulinum Toxin and Progressive Pneumoperitoneum in Loss of Domain Hernias-Our First 100 Cases

2020

Objectives: Preoperative botulinum toxin type A (BT) and progressive pneumoperitoneum (PPP) are useful tools in the preparation of patients with loss of domain hernias (LODH). The purpose of our retrospective study is to report our experience in the treatment of 100 consecutive patients with LODH, with the combined use of these techniques. Methods: Of the 753 patients operated on for ventral incisional hernia between June 2010 and December 2018 in our hospital, 100 patients with LODH were analyzed retrospectively. Diameters of abdominal cavity and hernia sac, and volumes of incisional hernia (VIH) and abdominal cavity (VAC) were calculated from CT scan, based on the index of Tanaka. Results…

Langzeitverlauf und angiographische Befunde bei serpiginöser Choroiditis

2006

Background: Long-term follow-up and angiographic findings of serpiginous choroiditis, a chronic disease with recurrences of unknown origin, are reported. Patients and Methods: A retrospective analysis of the data of 4 patients with serpiginous choroidopathy, who were treated in the eye clinic of Mainz in the past 10-18 years was made. Progression of disease was documented by photography, as well as fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography. Patients with acute lesions were treated with steroids per os for some weeks. Results: All 8 eyes developed 2 - 7 recurrences with progression of the chorioretinal scars. In cases of macular involvement the functional results were worse. No choroidal…

Response-based chemotherapy and involved field radiation for intermediate stage Hodgkin disease. A GISL/NHLSG trial.

2006

Abstract Background. Most of the patients with advanced stage Hodgkin lymphoma can be cured with a standard course of six cycle of ABVD chemotherapy plus involved field (IF)radiotherapy. Patients with less advanced stage or with a more responsive disease could possibly achieve a cure with a shorter course of chemotherapy. In 1992, in the pre-PET era, the GISL addressed the issue of the proper number of chemotherapy cycles planning a response-oriented, ABVD-based study for intermediate-stage Hodgkin’s lymphoma patients. Patients and Methods. From January 1992 to December 2002, 218 patients younger than 70 were enrolled. Eligible patients had histologically confirmed and clinically staged Hod…

Transdermal estrogens do not appear to modify the extent of lesional areas of aortic atherosclerosis in oophorectomized rabbits on a cholesterol-rich…

2000

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in older women in industrialised countries. It has been suggested that it is the cessation of estrogen production by the ovaries that puts postmenopausal women at increased risk of CVD. Estrogen therapy has demonstrated a protective effect against CVD and several reports suggest that diverse mechanisms may be involved. Oral estrogen appears to be associated with a better lipid profile than the use of transdermal estrogens; however, it is assumed that estrogens, oral and non-oral, have direct actions on the blood vessels that may exert an important role in cardiovascular disease prevention. To investigate the effect of transdermal es…
