The Generalized Model for the Description of Prompt Neutrons in the Low-energy Fission
2013
Abstract The generalized model for the description of neutron emission from the spontaneous and neutron-induced fission in the energy interval up to 20 MeV is developed. For accurate calculations of nucleon composition and excitation energy of the fissioning nucleus at the scission point, the time-dependent statistical model including the pre-equilibrium neutron emission and nuclear friction effects is used. For each member of the compound nucleus ensemble at the scission point, the primary fission-fragment characteristics such as kinetic and excitation energies and yields are calculated using the scission-point fission model with nuclear shell and pairing effects, and based on the multimod…
High resolution 80Se(n,γ) cross section measurement at CERN n_TOF and development of the novel i-TED detection system
2022
3-4 -vuotiaiden lasten fyysinen aktiivisuus päiväkodissa eri vuodenaikoina sekä varhaiskasvattajan kannustuksen yhteys lasten fyysiseen aktiivisuuteen
2013
Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää 3-4-vuotiaiden lasten fyysisen aktiivisuuden intensiteetin eroja päiväkodissa eri vuodenaikoina sekä varhaiskasvattajan kannustuksen yhteyttä lasten fyysiseen aktiivisuuteen. Tutkimusjoukko muodostui päiväkotien vuonna 2007 syntyneistä vapaaehtoisista lapsista. Tutkimusaineisto kerättiin havainnoimalla OSRAC-P -havainnointimenetelmän avulla 14 päiväkodissa tammi-helmikuussa (N 94) sekä elo-syyskuussa (N 118) vuonna 2011. Lasten fyysinen aktiivisuus oli pääosan ajasta (noin 60 %) intensiteetiltään erittäin kevyttä. Intensiteetiltään vähintään keskiraskaan fyysisen aktiivisuuden esiintyvyys oli noin 10 %. Vuodenajalla oli erittäin merkitsevä yhtey…
Probing the small- x nuclear gluon distributions with isolated photons at forward rapidities in p+Pb collisions at the LHC
2014
Inclusive direct photon production in p+Pb collisions at the LHC is studied within the NLO perturbative QCD. Our aim is to quantify the dominant $x$ regions probed at different rapidities and to identify the best conditions for testing the nuclear gluon parton distribution functions (nPDFs) at small $x$. A comparison to the inclusive pion production reveals that from these two processes the photons carry more sensitivity to the small-$x$ partons and that this sensitivity can be further increased by imposing an isolation cut for the photon events. The details of the isolation criteria, however, seem to make only a small difference to the studied $x$ sensitivity and have practically no effect…
Improving Image Quality in a multi-plane Compton Telescope for Hadron Therapy Monitoring
2023
Mass and charge distributions in the very asymmetric mass region of the neutron induced fission of
2001
Abstract The mass-separator Lohengrin was used to measure the yields of the light fission products with A=74−85 and their nuclear charge and kinetic energy distributions from the odd- Z compound nucleus 239 Np ∗ formed by double capture of thermal neutrons. The mass yield distribution reveals an influence of the fragment shell with N=50 affecting also the nuclear charge and kinetic energy distributions. An odd–even effect for protons is found in the very asymmetric mass division, increasing from 4% to 35% with increasing fission asymmetry. This is in contrast to findings in normal asymmetric fission (region of high fission yields) where no odd–even effect for protons was observed. An odd–ev…
A cross-cultural investigation of email communication in Peninsular Spanish and British English. The role of (in)formality and (in)directness
2013
This paper examines the email discursive practices of particular speakers of two different languages, namely Peninsular Spanish and British English. More specifically, our study focuses on (in)formality and (in)directness therein, for these lie at the heart of considerable scholarly debate regarding, respectively (i) the general stylistic drift towards orality and informality in technology-mediated communication, and (ii) the degree of communicative (in)directness – within broader politeness orientations – of speakers of different languages, specifically an orientation towards directness in Peninsular Spanish vis-à-vis indirectness in British English. The aim of this paper is thus to invest…
Atmospheric and astrophysical neutrinos above 1 TeV interacting in IceCube
2015
The IceCube Neutrino Observatory was designed primarily to search for high-energy (TeV--PeV) neutrinos produced in distant astrophysical objects. A search for $\gtrsim 100$~TeV neutrinos interacting inside the instrumented volume has recently provided evidence for an isotropic flux of such neutrinos. At lower energies, IceCube collects large numbers of neutrinos from the weak decays of mesons in cosmic-ray air showers. Here we present the results of a search for neutrino interactions inside IceCube's instrumented volume between 1~TeV and 1~PeV in 641 days of data taken from 2010--2012, lowering the energy threshold for neutrinos from the southern sky below 10 TeV for the first time, far bel…
Characterization of the atmospheric muon flux in IceCube
2015
Muons produced in atmospheric cosmic ray showers account for the by far dominant part of the event yield in large-volume underground particle detectors. The IceCube detector, with an instrumented volume of about a cubic kilometer, has the potential to conduct unique investigations on atmospheric muons by exploiting the large collection area and the possibility to track particles over a long distance. Through detailed reconstruction of energy deposition along the tracks, the characteristics of muon bundles can be quantified, and individual particles of exceptionally high energy identified. The data can then be used to constrain the cosmic ray primary flux and the contribution to atmospheric …
