Income distribution dynamics: monotone Markov chains make light work

This paper considers some aspects of the dynamics of income distributions by employing a simple Markov chain model of income mobility. The main motivation of the paper is to introduce the techniques of “monotone” Markov chains to this field. The transition matrix of a discrete Markov chain is called monotone if each row stochastically dominates the row above it. It will be shown that by embedding the dynamics of the income distribution in a monotone Markov chain, a number of interesting results may be obtained in a straightforward and intuitive fashion.

The paper presents a thermodynamically consistent formulation for nonlocal damage models. Nonlocal models have been recognized as a theoretically clean and computationally efficient approach to overcome the shortcomings arising in continuum media with softening. Reliable Planar Object Pose Estimation in Light Fields From Best Subaperture Camera Pairs

International audience; A light-field camera can obtain richer information about a scene than a usual camera. This property offers a lot of potential for robot vision. In this paper, we present a method for pose estimation of a planar object with a light-field camera. The light-field camera can be regarded as a set of sub-aperture cameras. Although any combination of them can theoretically be used for the pose estimation, the accuracy depends on the combination. We show that the estimated pose error can be reduced by selecting the best pair of sub-aperture cameras. Fixed Point Theorems in Partially Ordered Metric Spaces and Existence Results for Integral Equations

We derive some new coincidence and common fixed point theorems for self-mappings satisfying a generalized contractive condition in partially ordered metric spaces. As applications of the presented theorems, we obtain fixed point results for generalized contraction of integral type and we prove an existence theorem for solutions of a system of integral equations.
On Boundary Conditions for Wedge Operators on Radial Sets

We present a theorem about calculation of fixed point index for k-$\psi$-contractive operators with 0 < k <1 defined on a radial set of a wedge of an infinite dimensional Banach space. Then results on the existence of eigenvectors and nonzero fixed points are obtained.

Fixed point theory for almost convex functions

Traditionally, metric fixed point theory has sought classes of spaces in which a given type of mapping (nonexpansive, assymptotically or generalized nonexpansive, uniformly Lipschitz, etc.) from a nonempty weakly compact convex set into itself always has a fixed point. In some situations the class of space is determined by the application while there is some degree of freedom in constructing the map to be used. With this in mind we seek to relax the conditions on the space by considering more restrictive types of mappings.
Daugavet- and delta-points in Banach spaces with unconditional bases

We study the existence of Daugavet- and delta-points in the unit sphere of Banach spaces with a 1 1 -unconditional basis. A norm one element x x in a Banach space is a Daugavet-point (resp. delta-point) if every element in the unit ball (resp. x x itself) is in the closed convex hull of unit ball elements that are almost at distance 2 2 from x x .
