Applying Patterns for Improving Subcontracting Management
2005
This paper studies inter-organizational communication of strategic design information. The focus is on global software subcontracting, where communication problems are common. Software patterns, which have been recognized as a valuable tool in software development, are proposed to be means to facilitate the communication of design information in subcontracting relationship. The position of patterns in subcontracting related processes are studied and the implications of introducing patterns to software subcontracting relationship are analyzed. As a result an evaluation of software patterns’ suitability as means for efficient, systematic and explicit communication in managing the subcontracti…
Dai beni comuni al comune. Diritto, Stato e storia
2016
This article – which examines the volume by Pierre Dardot and Christian Laval, Commun – intends to work out the meanings, including their historical background, which pertain to a crucial discursive field in today’s political debate: those of the terms common /commons. The goal, following Dardot and Laval multifold proposal, is to understand how to overcome the evident indeterminacy of a word such as commun. The critical analysis of the extremely complex, and frequently fuzzy, genealogies of common /commons is a fundamental step in this intellectual program, indeed a precondition for the elaboration of a convincing conceptual tool. This concept is interpreted, following the perspective outl…
Effect of UD carbon on the specific mechanical properties of glass mat composites for marine applications
2009
In this work the influence of a uniaxial carbon fabric layer on the mechanical performances of a glass mat/epoxy composite used for marine applications has been studied. All the structures have been made, at room temperature, by vacuum bagging technique. Tension and flexural tests have been carried out in order to evaluate the specific mechanical properties of the composite and to compare these with those of the marine aluminium alloy 6016-T4. The glass composites have higher specific strength but lower specific modulus than aluminium alloy. To increase the specific modulus of the composites, each layer of glass mat has been replaced with a layer of uniaxial carbon fabric. In addition, a s…
Yleisten kielitutkintojen arvioijien käsityksiä thainkieliseksi tunnistettujen suomenoppijoiden suullisesta kielitaidosta
2020
Artikkelissa tarkastellaan sitä, miten thainkielisten suomenoppijoiden (N=10) ensikielen tunnistaminen vaikuttaa Yleisten kielitutkintojen (YKI) suomen arvioijien (N=44) käsityksiin kielitaidosta ja millaisia käsityksiä arvioijilla on thainkielisten suullisesta kielitaidosta. Artikkelin aineisto liittyy Rikkinäistä suomea-hankkeeseen, jossa thainkieliset oli yksi tutkimukseen osallistuneesta ensikielen ryhmittymästä. Artikkelissa määrällisen aineiston avulla tarkastellaan tunnistamista ja arvioinnissa käytettyjen kuuden analyyttisen arviointikriteerin käyttöä. Laadullinen aineisto koostuu arvioijien kirjoittamista ensikielen tunnistamiseen ja oppijoiden kielitaitoon liittyvistä huomioista, …
Do distractors interfere with memory for study pairs in associative recognition?
2006
In an associative recognition task, distractors generally consist of a rearrangement of the items composing the study pairs. This makes it possible that processing the distractors generates retroactive interference on memory for the study pairs. In Experiment 1, we explored this possibility in a yes/no recognition test concerning previously learned arbitrary associations between visual symbols and auditory syllables. Rearranged pairs had a deleterious impact on the accuracy and the speed of responses to related correct pairs. This effect did not vary as a function of the number of training blocks, and furthermore, in Experiment 2, the same effect was observed for overlearned small multiplic…
Quasi-interpolating and Smoothing Local Splines
2015
In this chapter, local quasi-interpolating and smoothing splines are described. Although approximation properties of local spline are similar to properties of the global interpolating and smoothing splines, their design does not require the IIR filtering of the whole data array. The computation of a local spline value at some point utilizes only a few adjacent grid samples. Therefore, local splines can be used for real-time processing of signals and for the design of FIR filter banks generating wavelets and wavelet frames (Chaps. 12 and 14). In the chapter, local splines of different orders are designed and their approximation properties are established which are compared with the propertie…
The reaction enthalpy of hydrogen dissociation calculated with the Small System Method from simulation of molecular fluctuations.
2014
We show how we can find the enthalpy of a chemical reaction under non-ideal conditions using the Small System Method to sample molecular dynamics simulation data for fluctuating variables. This method, created with Hill's thermodynamic analysis, is used to find properties in the thermodynamic limit, such as thermodynamic correction factors, partial enthalpies, volumes, heat capacities and compressibility. The values in the thermodynamic limit at (T,V, μj) are then easily transformed into other ensembles, (T,V,Nj) and (T,P,Nj), where the last ensemble gives the partial molar properties which are of interest to chemists. The dissociation of hydrogen from molecules to atoms was used as a conve…
Standard, estandarización y aplicación del artículo 102 TFUE a los conflictos sobre licencias relativas a derechos de propietad intelectual
2014
The standardization, de jure as well as de facto, gives rise to critical issues also in the field of antitrust law. Especially in recent years, the European case law and that of some member states have in particular dealt with the violation of the so-called FRAND commitments, which are undertaken by the holders of those patents that become essential for the implementation of the selected standard (Standard Essential Patents - SEPs). The EU Commission and the Courts have then several times applied the provisions on abuse of a dominant position to the attempt of the SEPs holders to prevent access to these patents by subjects that need them to operate in the downstream markets. The essay trace…
Modelling and Simulation of Ego-Noise of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
2020
In this paper, we develop a simulation model for the ego-noise of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The ego-noise is composed of spike noise and background noise. The spike noise is modelled by a finite sum of sinusoids, while the background noise is modelled by a coloured Gaussian stationary process. The main property of our model is that it only depends on physical characteristics of the UAV and it does not need real-time audio inputs to be developed. This model is very useful for training novel noise cancelling algorithms and for evaluating their performance. To validate the proposed model, we compare the statistical properties of the ego-noise simulated using our model with actual ego-no…
Independent component analysis based on symmetrised scatter matrices
2007
A new method for separating the mixtures of independent sources has been proposed recently in [Oja et al. (2006). Scatter matrices and independent component analysis. Austrian J. Statist., to appear]. This method is based on two scatter matrices with the so-called independence property. The corresponding method is now further examined. Simple simulation studies are used to compare the performance of so-called symmetrised scatter matrices in solving the independence component analysis problem. The results are also compared with the classical FastICA method. Finally, the theory is illustrated by some examples. peerReviewed
