Temporal aggregation in chain graph models

The dependence structure of an observed process induced by temporal aggregation of a time evolving hidden spatial phenomenon is addressed. Data are described by means of chain graph models and an algorithm to compute the chain graph resulting from the temporal aggregation of a directed acyclic graph is provided. This chain graph is the best graph which covers the independencies of the resulting process within the chain graph class. A sufficient condition that produces a memory loss of the observed process with respect to its hidden origin is analyzed. Some examples are used for illustrating algorithms and results.

The equal collective gains value in cooperative games

AbstractThe property of equal collective gains means that each player should obtain the same benefit from the cooperation of the other players in the game. We show that this property jointly with efficiency characterize a new solution, called the equal collective gains value (ECG-value). We introduce a new class of games, the average productivity games, for which the ECG-value is an imputation. For a better understanding of the new value, we also provide four alternative characterizations of it, and a negotiation model that supports it in subgame perfect equilibrium.

Immune networks: multitasking capabilities near saturation

Pattern-diluted associative networks were introduced recently as models for the immune system, with nodes representing T-lymphocytes and stored patterns representing signalling protocols between T- and B-lymphocytes. It was shown earlier that in the regime of extreme pattern dilution, a system with $N_T$ T-lymphocytes can manage a number $N_B!=!\order(N_T^\delta)$ of B-lymphocytes simultaneously, with $\delta!<!1$. Isomers 1,2-dichlorobenzene (o-DCB) and 1,3-dichlorobenzene (m-DCB) were high-pressure frozen in-situ in a Merrill–Bassett diamond–anvil cell and their structures determined at room temperature and at 0.18 (5) GPa for o-DCB, and 0.17 (5) GPa for m-DCB by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Bond-based 3D-chiral linear indices: Theory and QSAR applications to central chirality codification

The recently introduced non-stochastic and stochastic bond-based linear indices are been generalized to codify chemical structure information for chiral drugs, making use of a trigonometric 3D-chirality correction factor. These improved modified descriptors are applied to several well-known data sets to validate each one of them. Finitary formal topologies and Stone’s representation theorem

AbstractWe study the concept of finitary formal topology, a point-free version of a topological space with a basis of compact open subsets. The notion of finitary formal topology is defined from the perspective of the Basic Picture (introduced by the second author) and thus it is endowed with a binary positivity relation. As an application, we prove a constructive version of Stone’s representation theorem for distributive lattices. We work within the framework of a minimalist foundation (as proposed by Maria Emilia Maietti and the second author). Both inductive and co-inductive methods are used in most proofs.

Comparing the legal treatment of employee-created intellectual and industrial property from a labour law perspective

Under Spanish law, different intellectual creations, including those by employees, may be dealt with differently from a legal perspective. Works with authors' rights are regulated by the Spanish intellectual property law. In contrast, inventions made under a labour relationship, which may be used for industrial purposes, are regulated by industrial property laws and are thus governed by the Spanish patent and brands law. From a labour law perspective, this paper compares the two bodies of legislation to identify and justify the similarities and differences. Two-dimensional filters for structured text

The paper introduces a method for defining filters for structured text. In the method, the text structure is originally defined by a grammar consisting of a set of productions. To describe the information interests, a two-dimensional template is first created interactively from the grammar to show the structure of a set of textual elements, at a chosen level of detail. The template depicts the hierarchical structure of the elements and indicates also optionality, alternatives, and iteration in the structure.
