Autonomic Regulation In Autism Spectrum Disorders
2017
Introduction: The sinactive developmental model provides suggests a different way for the brain study by observing the children behavior. In all neurodevelopmental disorders, we can observe autonomic alteration comprising sleep disorders, meal behaviour alteration and self-regulatory impairment. These alterations/impairment are very frequent in autism spectrum disorders (ASD) (1-12). Aim of the present preliminary study is the assessment of metabolic rate in children affected by ASD. Material s and methods. 5 males affected by ASD aged 7-10 years (mean age 6.73±3:39), were recruited. The average score at the ADOS scale was 12.24 (SD± 3.29). The control group consisted of 5 males typically d…
Functional somatic complaints in pediatric age: alexithymia or anxiety and depression? An outstanding debate
2020
Recent studies suggest that just focusing on the direct relationship between emotional awareness and somatic complaints may be a simplified perspective, as functional somatic complaints are often associated with anxiety and depression symptoms, increased levels of stress, stronger negative affect, supporting the hypothesis that poor emotion awareness might have an impact on anxiety and depression and secondarily on somatic complaints.

2013
Objective: The study examined the effects of attachment attitudes, social support, and psychological and behavioral problems on pathological gambling among adolescents. Method: A total of 268 male adolescents, from 15 to 17 years of age (M = 16.23, SD = .39) completed self-report measures on gambling behaviors, attachment styles, social support, and internalizing and externalizing problems. Results and Conclusions. At-risk and pathological gamblers reported lower level of social support and higher level of fearful attachment and internalizing problems than non problematic-gamblers. Results from a discriminant function analysis, in which two discriminant functions emerged, were consistent wi…
Mothering, fathering, and Italian adolescents' problem behaviors and life satisfaction: Dimensional and typological approach
2013
In this study, we explored the relationship between mothering, fathering and Italian adolescents’ problem behaviors and life satisfaction by using both typological and dimensional approaches. From a typological perspective, we examined variations in adolescent adjustment as a function of maternal and paternal parenting styles. From a dimensional perspective, we examined the relationships between crucial dimensions of perceived mothering and fathering (acceptance and strictness) and their contribution to adolescents’ adjustment, for girls and boys separately. A total of 213 adolescents (99 boys and 114 girls), aged from 14 to 16 years of age, completed self-report measures on perceived paren…
