Finite groups with abelian Sylow 2-subgroups have been classified by Walter [8]. In this note I want to describe an alternate proof of some partial result of Walter's work, namely the theorem stated below. It represents the first major reduction step in that classification. The approach used here is to some extent derived from [1]. ! Photostimulated emission of KBr—In previously exposed to UV- or X-radiation

Abstract We have performed a photostimulated luminescence (PSL) study of a KBr—In crystal previously irradiated in the exciton fundamental absorption band. It is shown that the PSL arises from three types of close defect pair. It is also shown that one of these three kinds of defect pairs is {F, In2+}, whereas the electron centre of the two other pairs has a more complex nature.
Spectral Characteristics of Native Defects in BN

Spectral characteristics of native defects from the crystalline lattice of c-BN were studied. It is found that the photoluminescence (PL) spectrum under exposure to ultraviolet-blue light has a complex structure containing a predominant wide 2.5 eV luminescence band at room temperature. The photostimulated luminescence (PSL) consists of a band, which is coincident with the 2.5 eV PL. The results obtained allow to conclude that the same defects are responsible for both the PL and PSL formation.

Šajā darbā – “Demokrātijas lejupslīdes salīdzinājums Polijā un Ungārijā: Eiropas Savienības reakcija” – tiek veikta padziļinātāka teorētiskā demokrātijas lejupslīdes izpēte koncentrējoties uz tiesiskuma aspektu. Autore, izmantojot teorētisko analīzi, aplūkos abu valstu individuālos tiesiskuma pārkāpumus, kā arī Eiropas Savienības reakciju uz Ungārijas un Polijas gadījumiem un to salīdzinās izmantojot divus autores izvēlētos kritērijus. Darba mērķis ir noskaidrot, cik ļoti atšķiras Eiropas Savienības reakcijas laicīgums un intensitāte apzinoties, ka Polija un Ungārija ir pārkāpušas ES noteiktās pamatvērtības un principus.

Efficiency and dynamic range of the photostimulable x-ray storage material KBr:In

By calibrating the photostimulated luminescence (PSL) response with the known intensity of a standard light source, efficiency of the KBr:In powder material to the x- ray bremsstrahlung exposure at room temperature is estimated. At 44 and 85 kV voltages on the x-ray tube, the values of (8 plus or minus 2) multiplied by 10 5 and (18 plus or minus 4) multiplied by 10 5 photons from 1 mm 2 area of the 1 mm thick material are obtained as PSL responses on a 1 mR x-ray exposure, respectively. Hyperbolicity as an obstruction to smoothability for one-dimensional actions

Ghys and Sergiescu proved in the $80$s that Thompson's group $T$, and hence $F$, admits actions by $C^{\infty}$ diffeomorphisms of the circle . They proved that the standard actions of these groups are topologically conjugate to a group of $C^\infty$ diffeomorphisms. Monod defined a family of groups of piecewise projective homeomorphisms, and Lodha-Moore defined finitely presentable groups of piecewise projective homeomorphisms. These groups are of particular interest because they are nonamenable and contain no free subgroup. In contrast to the result of Ghys-Sergiescu, we prove that the groups of Monod and Lodha-Moore are not topologically conjugate to a group of $C^1$ diffeomorphisms. Fur…
