Safety and Tolerance Evaluation of Milk Fat Globule Membrane-Enriched Infant Formulas: A Randomized Controlled Multicenter Non-Inferiority Trial in H…

2014

ObjectiveThis multicenter non-inferiority study evaluated the safety of infant formulas enriched with bovine milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) fractions.MethodsHealthy, full-term infants ( n = 119) age ≤14 days were randomized to standard infant formula (control), standard formula enriched with a lipid-rich MFGM fraction (MFGM-L), or standard formula enriched with a protein-rich MFGM fraction (MFGM-P). Primary outcome was mean weight gain per day from enrollment to age 4 months (non-inferiority margin: –3.0 g/day). Secondary (length, head circumference, tolerability, morbidity, adverse events) and exploratory (phospholipids, metabolic markers, immune markers) outcomes were also evaluated.Res…

VALUTAZIONE DELLA PRESTAZIONE DI SALTO VERTICALE IN SOGGETTI SEDENTARI, GIOCATORI DI PALLAVOLO E DI PALLACANESTRO

2011

2017

The sense of taste is a chemical sense and one of the most ancestral sensory modalities. It allows detectingand appreciating taste molecules present in our food. Beyond our vital needs, the pleasure elicited from whatwe eat can drive our feeding behaviors sometimes up to excess. Food intake involves several sensorysystems, mainly smell and taste. The underlying molecular mechanisms are relatively complex. This articlefocuses on the extent of the chemical space associated with the five primary tastes (sour, salty, sweet, bitterand umami), and details the fundamental role of gustatory receptors in the perception of taste as well aswithin interindividual variabilities.

Septo-optic dysplasia and schizencephaly: a case report

2012

Introduction: Septo-optic dysplasia (SOD) is an uncommon developmental disorder involving variable midline brain structures, characterized by optic nerve hypoplasia, dysgenesis of septum pellucidum and pituitary- hypothalamic dysfunction with consequent endocrine deficits. The association of septo-optic dysplasia and cortical dysplasia is described as septo-optic dysplasia-plus. Reports on patients with septo-optic dysplasia-plus have been rare. Other distinct features, which occur especially when cerebral cortical abnormalities are also present (SOD- plus), consist of significant generalized developmental delay and/or spastic motor deficits. Methods: We report a 10-year-old boy with septo-…

A black-box, general purpose quadratic self-consistent field code with and without Cholesky Decomposition of the two-electron integrals

2021

We present the implementation of a quadratically convergent self-consistent field (QCSCF) algorithm based on an adaptive trust-radius optimisation scheme for restricted open-shell HartreeFock (ROHF), restricted HartreeFock (RHF), and unrestricted HartreeFock (UHF) references. The algorithm can exploit Cholesky decomposition (CD) of the two-electron integrals to allow calculations on larger systems. The most important feature of the QCSCF code lies in its black-box nature probably the most important quality desired by a generic user. As shown for pilot applications, it does not require one to tune the self-consistent field (SCF) parameters (damping, Pulay's DIIS, and other simil…

Emotional Profile and Intellectual Functioning

2015

Insufficient literature has been produced addressing children with borderline intellectual functioning (BIF) and gifted intellectual functioning (GIF). The goal of this work is to compare levels of self-esteem, depression, anxiety at school, and insecurity among children with BIF and GIF, and a control group of average intellectual functioning (AIF). There were participants of 104 children (fourth grade of primary school). Analyses revealed that children with BIF showed a lower level of self-esteem and higher levels of depression and school anxiety. Moreover, our findings highlight the co-occurrence of school anxiety, depressed mood, and insecurity among the BIF and AIF groups. One of the …

Recalled parental rearing style, self-esteem, and psychopathological symptoms in the general population

2020

The enduring impact of perceived parental behavior on self-esteem as well as anxiety and depression in adults is still unknown. In a large random route sample (age range 18?92), 4,747 subjects were asked to complete questionnaires about recalled parental rearing, selfesteem, anxiety, and depression. Structural equation modeling was used, and the data from the mother and the father version of the FEE (a questionnaire for recalled parental rearing) were analyzed separately. A model proposing that self-esteem mediates the relationship between parental behavior and psychopathological symptoms fits the data rather well (CFI = .95, RMSEA = .05, TLI = .94). Hence, the recalled authoritative parent…
