Gross Primary Production and false spring: a spatio-temporal analysis

2020

Phenological information can be obtained from different sources of data. For instance, from remote sensing data or products and from models driven by weather variables. The former typically allows analyzing land surface phenology whereas the latter provide plant phenological information. Analyzing relationships between both sources of data allows us to understand the impact of climate change on vegetation over space and time. For example, the onset of spring is advanced or delayed by changes in the climate. These alterations affect plant productivity and animal migrations.

Spring onset monitoring is supported by the Extended Spring Index (…

Effect of fillers on the properties of recycled polymers

2003

The main problems in post-consumer plastics recycling are due to the degradation undergone during lifetime and during processing steps. Moreover, for heterogeneous recycling, the incompatibility among the different polymeric phases give rise to secondary materials with low mechanical and thermomechanical properties. The properties-reprocessing relationships are an important tool for determining not only the properties of the recycled polymers but also the strategies to apply (processing conditions, stabilisers, fillers, compatibilizers, etc) in order to obtain recycled polymers with good mechanical properties. In this work the effect of adding inert fillers and modifier agents to recycled p…

Evolution of OO Methods: the unified case

1997

This paper takes an evaluative look into OO methods and especially the evolution of the new snified method from its ancestors, OMT and OODA. The paper ries to classify the components of the earlier ethods and identify the parts that have been taken into the Unified ethod. The research applies the method metrics approach. For the sake of compactness we limit ourselves to the class diagram technique of all methods. We make observations about the number of concepts in each variation and show how the metrics can be used to analyse the changes in the techniques.

Efficiency in constrained continuous location

1998

Abstract We present a geometrical characterization of the efficient, weakly efficient and strictly efficient points for multi-objective location problems in presence of convex constraints and when distances are measured by an arbitrary norm. These results, established for a compact set of demand points, generalize similar characterizations previously obtained for uncontrained problems. They are used to show that, in planar problems, the set of constrained weakly efficient points always coincides with the closest projection of the set of unconstrained weakly efficient points onto the feasible set. This projection property which are known previously only for strictly convex norms, allows to e…

The energy and environmental impacts of Italian households consumptions: An input–output approach

2011

Abstract Promoting sustainable consumption and production patterns is a key challenge for the future, in order to use the Earth resources efficiently, to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions, and to decouple the economic growth from the environmental degradation. New or customized methods have to be applied to support decisions makers in the choice of environmental-friendly products, and to select policy priorities and sustainable strategies. A modified input–output model can aid to analyse the relationships among economic growth, energy consumptions and pollutants, in order to assess the energy and environmental impacts due to the actual production and consumption patterns. The following pa…

Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae): a decade of research towards a sustainable integrated pest management program

2021

Abstract Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura) (Diptera: Drosophilidae) also known as spotted-wing drosophila (SWD), is a pest native to Southeast Asia. In the last few decades, the pest has expanded its range to affect all major European and American fruit production regions. SWD is a highly adaptive insect that is able to disperse, survive, and flourish under a range of environmental conditions. Infestation by SWD generates both direct and indirect economic impacts through yield losses, shorter shelf life of infested fruit, and increased production costs. Fresh markets, frozen berries, and fruit export programs have been impacted by the pest due to zero tolerance for fruit infestation. As SWD co…

Literatura científica de autores españoles sobre análisis de citas y factor de impacto en Biomedicina (1981-2005)

2008

This paper analyses the development of Spanish research literature in the field of citation analysis and impact factor (IF) in biomedicine over the period 1981-2005. Bibliometric methods and social network analysis were used to examine papers indexed in the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-Expanded), Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), MEDLINE, Índice Médico Español (IME) and Índice de Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades (ISOC) databases. 184 papers were identified, 79.89% of which were original research articles. Only four of these papers had been published before the 1990s. The mid 1990s saw a remarkable increase in the number of papers published (8-14 papers/year) with the highest pro…

Tendencias en la normalización de nombres de autores en publicaciones científicas

2011

We analyze current normalization trends of authors' names. We review the advantages of using a single bibliographic name as well as the most common naming recommendations so that each author can choose which to follow.
