Microleakage and shear bond strength of orthodontc brackets bonded to hypomineralized enamel following different surface preparations

Objectives: This study investigated the effects of several conditioning methods on shear bond strength (SBS) and microleakage of orthodontic brackets bonded to demineralized enamel. Study Design: One hundred premolars were selected and immersed in a cariogenic solution for 12 weeks. The teeth were randomly assigned into 5 groups. In groups 1 and 2, the teeth underwent acid etching for 30 and 120 seconds, respectively. In group 3, a combination of laser and acid etching was employed. A self-etch primer (SEP) was applied in group 4 and in group 5, the teeth were exposed to acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF) for 4 minutes before etching. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry characterization of the varnish and glue of an ancient 18th century double bass.

A GC–MS investigation is conducted on the double bass “Panormus”, property of Conservatorio di Musica “Vincenzo Bellini” in Palermo. The most important components of the varnish (fatty acids) and of the glue (proteinaceous amino acids), with which the musical instrument was treated in the past, are determined. The analyses are carried out by prior derivatization of fatty acids by acidic methanol and of amino acids by acidic methanol and trifluoroacetic anhydride (TFAA). Analytes identification is achieved by direct comparison with several reference materials and the use of a digitized library.

[EN] The paper concerns the 3D reconstruction and virtual restoration of a painted rock-cut chamber tombs located in the interior of Southern Etruria (Viterbo Province, Central Italy). The tomb was discovered in 1901 in a place named Pranzovico and it dates from the mid-fifth century BC; it has a cross plan with central atrium (decorated with paintings) and three chambers in which there are the rock-cut funerary beds. The paintings have been largely destroyed by illegal excavators in the days immediately following the discovery; during the 20th century it was damaged due to agricultural works in the surroundings and now it is partially filled up. The contribution summarizes the activities of Archeology and Virtual Restoration carried out at the University of Salento between 2004 and 2018. In particular, the main research projects are illustrated: the Papyrological Museum of Lecce and the Soknopaiou Nesos Project, Dime es-Seba / Egypt (2013-2017); Hierapolis of Phrygia - Turkey (2005-2015) Virtual Hierapolis Project; Virtual restoration of the medieval paintings of Salento: knowledge-fruition-valorization (2004-2017).

Experiments on the Virtual City: Three-Dimensional Reconfigurations of Missing, Never Realized or Destroyed Urban Areas

We present two works on the "Virtual City" held at Palermo. They are about the three-dimensional reconfiguration of urban places that show evidence of "invisible" architecture, this is because in one case there were ancient monuments now destroyed, or in another case projects designed for the urban void and never made. The aim is to involve new forms of communication for the development of cultural tourism.

Although Miguel Parra Abril (Valencia, 1780-Madrid, 1846) is one of the most important Valencian School painters of floral still lifes, this aspect of his work remains little known. The present article addresses this oversight in two ways. First, by offering an overview of his oeuvre as a painter of floral subjects from his student days at the Fine Arts Academy of Valencia through his mature works. Recent exhibitions produced by the Foundation <i>La Luz de las Imágenes</i> in Valencian dioceses has allowed for numerous works of art to be seen, admired and studied under optimal conditions. In this context we offer an approach to the workshop of the Requena family, painters active in the Kingdom of Valencia between approximately 1531 and 1605.
