Precision measurements of electroweak gauge boson parameters at LEP

2000

Abstract Over ten years after the start-up of LEP and four years after the completion of the energy scans around the Z resonance the analyses of the Z parameters by the four experiments Aleph, Delphi and L3 are final and the Opal results are very close to final. The analyses of the polarisation of τ leptons and measurements of the production rates and forward-backward asymmetries in the heavy flavour sector are approaching their finalisation. Recent data taking nearly doubled the statistics of W± pair events available at Lep and lead to significantly improved preliminary measurements of the W± pair production cross section, the W mass and branching fractions as well as improved limits on no…

ZZ→l+l−νν¯production inpp¯collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2008

We describe a search for Z boson pair production in pp collisions at sqrt(s)= 1.96 TeV with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.7 fb^-1. Using the final state decay ZZ to llvv (where l = e or mu) we measure a signal with a 2.6 standard deviations significance (2.0 expected) and measure a cross section of sigma(pp to ZZ + X) = 2.01 +- 0.93 (stat.) +- 0.29 (sys.) pb.

Measurement of time dependentCPasymmetry parameters inB0meson decays toωKS0,η′K0, andπ0KS0

2009

We present measurements of the time-dependent CP-violation parameters S and C in the decays B-0 -> omega K-S(0), B-0 -> eta'K-0, reconstructed as eta'K-S(0) and eta'K-L(0), and B-0 -> pi K-0(S)0. The data sample corresponds to the full BABAR dataset of 467 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs produced at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The results are S-omega KS0 = 0.55(-0.29)(+0.26) +/- 0.02, C-omega KS0 = 0.52(-0.20)(+0.22) +/- 0.03, S-eta'K0 = 0.57 +/- 0.08 +/- 0.02, C-eta'K0 = 0.08 +/- 0.06 +/- 0.02, S-pi 0KS0 = 0.55 +/- 0.20 +/- 0.03, and C-pi 0KS0 = 0.13 +/- 0.13 +/- 0.03, where the first errors are statistical and the second systemati…

Dilepton photoproduction on a deuteron target

2019

We investigate the sensitivity of the cross section for lepton pair production off a deuteron target, $\gamma d \to l^+ l^- d$, to the deuteron charge radius. We show that for small momentum transfers the Bethe-Heitler process dominates, and that it is sensitive to the charge radius such that a cross section ratio measurement of about $0.1 \%$ relative accuracy could give a deuteron charge radius more accurate that the current electron scattering value and sufficiently accurate to distinguish between the electronic and muonic atomic values.

Search for pair production of first-generation leptoquarks in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV

2009

A search for pair production of first-generation leptoquarks LQ is performed with data collected by the D0 experiment in p pbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. In a sample of data corresponding to ~1 fb-1, the search has been performed on the final states with two electrons and two jets or one electron, two jets and missing transverse energy. We find our data consistent with standard model expectations. The results are combined with those found in a previous analysis of events with two jets and missing transverse energy to obtain scalar LQ mass limits. We set 95% C.L. lower limits on a scalar LQ mass of 299 GeV, 284 GeV and 216 GeV for beta=1, beta=0.5 and …

Dalitz plot analysis ofB±→π±π±π∓decays

2009

We present a Dalitz plot analysis of charmless B-+/- decays to the final state pi(+/-)pi(+/-)pi(-/+) using a sample of (465 +/- 5)x10(6) B(B)over bar pairs collected by the BABAR experiment at root s=10.58 GeV. We measure the branching fractions B(B-+/-->pi(+/-)pi(+/-)pi(-/+))=(15.2 +/- 0.6 +/- 1.2 +/- 0.4)x10(-6), B(B-+/-->rho(0)(770)pi(+/-))=(8.1 +/- 0.7 +/- 1.2(-1.1)(+0.4))x10(-6), B(B-+/--> f(2)(1270)pi(+/-))=(1.57 +/- 0.42 +/- 0.16(-0.19)(+0.53))x10(-6), and B(B-+/-->pi(+/-)pi(+/-)pi(-/+) nonresonant)=(5.3 +/- 0.7 +/- 0.6(-0.5)(+1.1))x10(-6), where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and model-dependent, respectively. A study of single W production in e+e− collisions at –183 GeV

1999

Abstract Single W production is studied in the data recorded with the ALEPH detector at LEP at centre-of-mass energies between 161 and 183 GeV. The cross section is measured to be σW=0.41±0.17(stat.)±0.04(syst.) pb at 183 GeV, consistent with the Standard Model expectation. Limits on non-standard WWγ couplings are deduced as −1.6 γ (λ γ =0) and −1.6 γ (κ γ =1) at 95% C.L. A search for effectively invisible decays of the W boson in W pair production is performed, leading to an upper limit on the branching ratio of 1.3% ( Γ inv =27 MeV ) at 95% C.L.

Search for pair production of second generation scalar leptoquarks

2008

We report on a search for the pair production of second generation scalar leptoquarks (LQ) in ppbar collisions at the center of mass energy sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb-1 collected with the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Topologies arising from the LQLQbar->muqnuq and LQLQbar->muqmuq decay modes are investigated. No excess of data over the standard model prediction is observed and upper limits on the leptoquark pair production cross section are derived at the 95% C.L. as a function of the leptoquark mass and the branching fraction beta for the decay LQ->muq. These are interpreted as lower limits on the lepto…

Search for chargino pair production in scenarios with gravitino LSP and stau NLSP at GeV at LEP

1999

Promptly decaying lightest charginos were searched for in the context of scenarios with gravitino LSP. It was assumed that the stau is the next to lightest supersymmetric particle (NLSP). Data collected with the DELPHI detector at a centre-of-mass energy near 183~{~mbox{${mathrm{GeV}}$}}\nwere analysed combining the methods developed in previous searches. No evidence for the production of these particles was found. Hence, limits were derived at 95% confidence level. The mass of charginos was found to be greater than 85.5~GeV/$c^2$ for $m_{ ilde{chi}^+_1}-m_{ ilde{ au}_1}geq 0.3 {mathrm{GeV}}/c^2$, independently of the mass of the gravitino.

Search for Supersymmetric Particles in e+e- Collisions at sqrt(s) up to 202GeV and Mass Limit for the Lightest Neutralino

2000

Searches for pair production of squarks, sleptons, charginos, and neutralinos are performed with the data collected by the ALEPH detector at LEP at centre-of-mass energies from 188.6 to 201.6 GeV. No evidence for any such signals is observed in a total integrated luminosity of about 410pb-1. The negative results of the searches are translated into exclusion domains in the space of the relevant MSSM parameters, which improve significantly on the constraints set previously. Under the assumptions of gaugino and sfermion mass unification, these results allow a 95% C.L. lower limit of 37GeV/c2 to be set on the mass of the lightest neutralino for any tan beta and sfermion mass. Additional constra…
