Este artículo recupera la memoria del Palacete de Torrent, que fue diseñado y construido entre 1918 y 1919 por el importante arquitecto valenciano José Mª Manuel Cortina Pérez, para su hermana Elvira María Salomé y su cuñado José Giner y Viguer, un conocido industrial de Valencia. All’epoca dell’occupazione italiana, dal 1912, dell’isola di Rodi in Grecia, il palazzo del Gran Maestro nella città di Rodi versava, in generale, in stato di rudere. L’edificio, un tempo luogo forte della città, era stato costruito nell’Antichità, rimaneggiato in epoca bizantina, e rifondato, agli inizi del sec. XIV, dai Cavalieri di San Giovanni o di Rodi, che lo completarono, quale residenza del loro Gran Maestro, già alla fine dello stesso secolo. The Bonet Palace in Palermo still shows characters linjed to the great 15th construction period, despite being heavily tampered with and transformed. The importance of the architecture had already been recognized by contemporaries, while from the current point of view the aspects related to the social rice of the owner stand out. The essay examines these issues and tries to offer some answers also on the original appearance of the building.

The paper focuses the survey and representation of the Pisana Tower in the Royal Palace of Palermo. The tower, which has recently been inserted in the UNESCO World Heritage List, was built in the XII century under the patronage of Norman kings. Along the centuries, the tower has undergone several transformations, to fit ever-changing uses. The coexistence of such heterogeneous elements, combined with the fragmentation of the passages connecting the levels of the tower, conceal the original unity and the typology of this historical building. In the fifties of the fifteenth century, the archbishop of Palermo Simone Beccadelli started the construction of a new archbishop’s palace in an area between the upper stretch of the ancient Cassaro road and the churchyard created along the southern side of the cathedral, whose arrangement had engaged his predecessors since the thirties of the same century. This article presents four engravings that bear witness to the most significant stages of the celebrations organised in Catania for the funeral of the Prince of Biscari, Ignazio Paternò Castello, on 2 September 1786. This graphic corpus constitutes the last opportunity to celebrate the prince’s memory and prominence based on the models established by European courts, but at the same time it reveals more recondite aspects of the research into phenomena of emulation in architecture and self-representation that have not emerged to date from studies on the aristocrat from Catania and that reflect above all the way of life of a cultured personality driven by great ambitions.
