Saproxylic beetle assemblages of three managed oak woodlands in the Eastern Mediterranean

2008

Oak woodlands belong to the natural vegetation in most Mediterranean regions but have suffered from a long history of woodland devastation and overgrazing. The remaining woodlands have been managed in different ways, and we expected this to have effects on the fauna associated with trees. We investigated three different sites in the Eastern Mediterranean with flight-interception traps to analyse the impact of woodland management on dead wood and tree structures and the relevance for saproxylic beetle assemblages. Our results show significant differences in trunk diameter, stein density and dead wood diversity between the three sites. Old oaks in semi-open woodland are characterised by diver…

The idea of international solidarity at UNESCO is dwingling

2015

UNESCO’s role to building solidarity, peace and security internationally seems to be threatened and weakened. In 1946, UNESCO made a social contract to use culture, education and science as a tool for buiding international solidarity, peace and security. Its trajectory presents challenges related to vopice, representation, power and hegemony which often result in conflict in most parts of the globe. For instance, the recent acceptance of Palestine to UNESCO has increased tensions amongst states because of Palestine’s positioning in global peace processes. This research surfaces some of these challenges and recomends further research on how to ensure the independents of UNESCO in fulfilling …

Regards sur l'école Palestinienne : quelle politique éducative ?

2011

Intercultural empathy between Palestinian and Israeli individuals : a qualitative study utilizing grounded theory

2017

This study addresses intercultural empathy as a concept, and if or how it might be present among conflicting parties, specifically between Palestinian and Israeli individuals. Since there are many definitions of the word “empathy,” the researcher examines previous definitions of this term, how it relates to intercultural empathy, and then offers a singular definition for the purpose of this study. Previous research has examined empathy in relationship to other familiar words, including “sympathy” and “compassion,” though there has been little research done on the term, “intercultural empathy,” as a whole, nor has it often been studied between specific conflicting parties. Through interviews…

Representation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in American newspapers

2015

Ostatnia opis…

Volatile constituents of Stachys palaestina L. (Palestine woundwort) growing in Lebanon

2014

The hydrodistillation of the aerial parts of Stachys palaestina L. collected in Lebanon in the Kadisha Valley, yielded 0.1% (w/w) of essential oil. GC and GC-MS analyses enabled the identification of 87 compounds representing 90.8% of the total oil. Hexadecanoic acid (10%), hexahydrofarnesyl acetone (6.9%), eugenol (4.3%) and (E)-caryophyllene (4.3%) were the main components. On the whole, the oil was constituted mainly of sesquiterpenes (37.7%), among which sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (20.7%) slightly prevailed over oxygenated sesquiterpenes (17.0%). This is the first report on the chemical composition of S. palaestina essential oil.
