A revision of the structure and stratigraphy of pre-Green Tuff ignimbrites at Pantelleria (Strait of Sicily)

International audience; At Pantelleria, peralkaline silicic magmas were erupted across a range of eruptive typologies and magnitudes: pyroclastic flows, Plinian to strombolian pumice fallout and lava flows. In this paper we focus on the intermediate cycle of eruptive activity which is bracketed by ignimbrite units slightly older than the two caldera collapses which marked the volcanological activity of the island. This age interval (180-85 ka) was punctuated by six ignimbrite-forming eruptions (silicic and variably peralkaline) for a cumulative erupted magma volume of approximately 6 km3 dense rock equivalent. Added-Mass Based Efficient Fluid–Structure Interaction Model for Dynamics of Axially Moving Panels with Thermal Expansion

The paper considers the analysis of a traveling panel, submerged in axially flowing fluid. In order to accurately model the dynamics and stability of a lightweight moving material, the interaction between the material and the surrounding air must be taken into account. The lightweight material leads to the inertial contribution of the surrounding air to the acceleration of the panel becoming significant. This formulation is novel and the case complements our previous studies on the field. Reducing pesticide use is a major challenge in agriculture and involves developing more sustainable methods that rely on non-chemical cropping techniques and biological regulations according to agroecological principles. Branched broomrape (Phelipanche ramosa (L.) Pomel) is a root parasitic plant which infects crops and causes dramatic yield losses worldwide. Emeritusprofessori Kari Palonen avaa Max Webein yhteyttä Euroopan Unioniin. Koska Weber kuoli espanjantautiin kesäkuussa 1920, hänellä ei kuitenkaan voinut olla mitään käsitystä Euroopan unionista, sellaisena kuin me sen tunnemme. Palonen lähestyykin Euroopan Unionia Weberin ajatusten kautta, joissa esimerkiksi ymmärretään toteutuneita mahdollisuuksia vertaamalla niitä toteutumattomiin. Palonen ei myöskään ole ainoa Weber-tutkija, joka on pohtinut Weberin suhdetta Euroopan integraatioon.

The British Parliament and Foreign Policy in the 20th Century : Towards Increasing Parliamentarisation?

This article demonstrates the complexity of the foreign policy involvement of the British parliament during the 20th century. Parliamentary government as such provides some procedural means for involvement in foreign policy debate, in Britain as well as in other countries. Researchers have, nevertheless, often argued that parliaments play a limited role in foreign policy. Approaching our topic by combining the analysis of policy documents with more discourse-oriented analysis of parliamentary debates, we argue that noticeable, but not straightforward, parliamentarisation of foreign policy took place in the course of the 20th century.
