Pictures portraying the health emergency around the world, such as those of the potter’s field in Hart Island, of the field hospitals in New York or of the column of military trucks transporting the coffins of COVID-19 victims in Bergamo, had worldwide resonance. This research investigates their metaphorical value in two recent poems: Plaguey Hill by Paul Muldoon and Requiem per una casa di riposo lombarda (Requiem for a Lombard Rest Home) by Fabio Pusterla. Predictors of mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic in older adults: the role of socio-demographic variables and COVID-19 anxiety

The objective of this study was to evaluate factors related to the mental health of Peruvian older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study had a cross-sectional and observational design. A total of 274 older adults in Lima, Peru (Mage = 67.86) filled out a sociodemographic survey, the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale, Mental Health Inventory-5, Patient Health Questionnaire-2 item, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale. A Structural Equation Model (SEM) was estimated to test an a priori model that relates the sociodemographic variables, COVID-19 Anxiety, psychological well-being, anxiety and depression. En este artículo se realiza una discusión sobre el papel de la sociología, junto a otras ciencias sociales, para analizar algunos aspectos sociales de la crisis provocada por la pandemia del COVID-19. Para ello se acude a condicionantes sociales provenientes de la estructura social, la cultura, el poder y la autoridad de los científicos y la construcción de instituciones relacionadas con la salud y la I+D. Los efectos de la pande- mia se abordan teniendo en cuenta las consecuencias previstas y no previstas del confinamiento. En las conclusiones se incluyen reflexiones sobre el impacto de la crisis en las ciencias sociales.

I have been very much impressed by the clarity, pragmatism and good medical judgement of the article by Camilo Porta,1 a respected and dedicated ESMO faculty member and friend, giving his personal perspective on real issues many oncologists working in a public system are eventually facing during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
