Post-pandemic Urban Habitat in the Neoanthropocene

2022

While the eyes of most analysts had been pointed on searching the apparition of the “black swan” (Taleb 2007), waiting with fear for the arrival of an unexpected event that would generate the new crisis, nobody wanted to see the “gray rhino” (a well-known risk that we want to ignore) that had been running furiously toward us by announcing the leap in the level of the environmental crisis, the umpteenth consequence of climate change on our lives. The COVID-19 pandemic, in fact, after numerous unheard alarms (Meadows, Meadows et al. 1972; Rockström et al. 2009), was the signal that the planet sent to our species to warn us to change: 98% of the Earth (nature) rebelled against the enormous env…

LinguAPP: An m-Health Application for Teledentistry Diagnostics

2022

An Android/iOS application for low-cost mobile devices to aid in dental diagnosis through questionnaire and photos is presented in this paper. The main purposes of our app lie in the ease of use even for nonexperienced users, in the limited hardware requirements that allow a wide diffusion, and in the possibility to modify the questionnaire for different pathologies. This tool was developed in about a month at the beginning of the COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic and is still in use in Italy to allow support to patients without going to the hospital, if not strictly necessary.

Responsabilità civile e pandemia

2022

The COVID-19 Crisis, Human Rights and Unfair Models of Production: The Case of Migrant Workers in the Agri-food Sector in European Countries

2022

Since its outbreak, the COVID-19 crisis has sharply exacerbated the structural inequalities that characterize the socioeconomic systems of European Union (EU) countries, disproportionately impacting people most affected by discrimination and social exclusion. The Covid-19 crisis has also brought under the spotlight the significant role of migrant workers in core sectors – such as the agri-food sector – disclosing how they are fundamental in the economic and societal functioning of EU countries. At the same time, the pandemic has sharply disclosed the limits of long supply chains (in terms of price distortion, unfair competition and distribution dynamics), as well as the conditions of exploi…

Libertà personale e libertà di circolazione tra emergenza presente e incertezza futura

2023

The article deals with the notion of personal freedom as it is regulated by art. 13 of Italian Constitution, drawing the main differences with other fundamental rights, in particular with the freedom of movement (art. 16 Cost.). To this end, the paper explores the main doctrinal orientations and the most recent constitutional case-law on the subject; specifically, it proposes a reading of the motivational points of the judgment n. 127 of 2022 of the Italian Constitutional Court which resolved some touchy issues of constitutionality that arose during the pandemic emergency. In conclusion, the text questions, with a look at the near future, on the usability of traditional tools for the protec…

COVID-19, 'FAKE NEWS' Y VACUNACIÓN: LA NECESIDAD DE INMUNIZAR A LA SOCIEDAD DE LA DUDA VACUNAL

2021

One of the keys to overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic is the development of the vaccine in order to immunize the population. In addition to the medical complications to obtain the vaccine, we highlight the presence of other problems, such as the dissemination of fake news that add difficulties to overcoming the global problem, especially due to its incidence in the field of anti-vaccine movements, which have developed, with special presence in Italy in recent years. For this, we warn of the need to be prepared to overcome the two pandemics that are developing in parallel, the one caused by the virus and the one generated by the fake news.

Emergenza sanitaria, (in)sicurezza e interventi normativi in materia di immigrazione in Italia

2020

The recent legislative measures and practices introduced in Italy in the filed of migration have highlighted many of the juridical problems that the current sanitary crisis is posing, especially with regard to the relationship between state of emergency and constitutional rights, also with regard to the State's obligations under international law. After briefly highliting the danger in opposing individual rights and undetermined political purposes, this contribution underlines the lack of reasonableness and consistency of these interventions. Particular attention is paid to the Decree 7 April, 2020, n. 150, which states that Italian ports, in time of pandemic, cannot be considered safe port…

Diritti individuali vs. scopi collettivi? I provvedimenti in materia di immigrazione al tempo della pandemia

2020

This paper analyses the interventions implemented in Italy in the field of immigration during the covid-19 emergency. The way in which they affect constitutive principles and fundamental rights, by opposing them to collective purposes is considered. The legal notion of “place of safety” is deepened to highlight the problematic nature of the Interministerial Decree 7 April 2020, n. 150 in terms of respect of fundamental rights and international law. Other legislative initiatives and praxis are taken into account as examples of a more general modality of intervention which, in the name of the protection of public health and safety, had controversial and unreasonable results also with respect …

Semiotica e pandemia: un diario

2021

Mediatically, the epidemic is the classic bad news that is good news. Deadly bad news that makes a lot of money. A tasty piece of news that attracts the attention of the blasé public, multiplies the audience and goes on - far more than its subject - by very fast contagion: everyone wants it, everyone is looking for it. For what reason? Quickly said: because it is imprudent to deny its scope, to downplay its nature and value. Who dares to throw water on the fire when, even for a very small percentage, there could be a chain death?
