Adequate number of consumers in a liking test. Insights from resampling in seven studies

2014

The recommended number of consumers to be enrolled in a hedonic test comparing several products usually ranges from 50 to 100, at least if no liking segmentation is sought. This paper seeks to examine whether such a panel size range is adequate, by means of 7 trials with different levels of product space complexity. Five types of products were tested: Two varied in fattiness and sweetness and were tested under the same conditions in two separate laboratories (4 trials); the remaining three, varying in taste and texture, were each tested in a different laboratory (3 trials). Each of the 7 trials was run by a different laboratory. Each of the seven laboratories enrolled in its trial 150 consu…

68 Ga‐Labelled Tropane Analogues for the Visualization of the Dopaminergic System

2020

Abstract The development of radiometal‐labelled pharmaceuticals for neuroimaging could offer great potential due to easier handling during labelling and availability through radionuclide generator systems. Nonetheless, to date, no such tracers are available for positron emission tomography, primarily owing to the challenge of crossing the blood–brain barrier (BBB) and loss of affinity through chelator attachment. We have prepared a variety of 68Ga‐labelled phenyltropanes showing that, through a simple hydrocarbon‐linker, it is possible to introduce a chelator onto the lead structure while maintaining its high affinity for hDAT (human dopamine transporter) and simultaneously achieving adequa…

Theoretical study of the mechanism of branching rearrangement of carbenium ions

1996

Abstract Owing to the practical interest of the acid catalyzed isomerization reactions of hydrocarbons, the mechanism of the branching rearrangements of C 4 H 9 + and C 5 H 11 + carbenium ions has been studied theoretically using ab initio methods which include electron correlation and extended basis sets. It has been found that the protonated cyclopropane-type species does not appear as a common intermediate for these reactions, since it is a transition state and not a minimum on the potential energy surfaces studied. In the case of C 4 H 9 + cation, the protonated methyl-cyclopropane ring is the transition state for the carbon scrambling reaction in the secondary n-butyl cation, while the…

Roberto Pane e la ricostruzione postbellica. Un approfondimento su alcuni temi siciliani

2010

ChemInform Abstract: Chemical and Spectroscopical Properties of Medium Sized trans- and cis- Bicyclo(n.1.0)alk-2-ynes.

2010

Chemical and spectroscopical properties of cis- and trans-cyclopropano-anellated cycloalkynes of medium ring size are investigated and compared with results from force field calculations. IR and 13C-NMR data of the alkynes reflect the deformation of the triple bond due to ring strain. Parallel to bending the reactivity increases with decreasing ring size, the trans fused alkynes prove to be nearly as reactive as the cis fused with a two carbon smaller ring size. The bicycloalkynes are complexed with silver triflate. 13C NMR reveals that the triple bond as well as the cyclopropane serve as ligands.

From Business System to Supply Chain and Production in Japan. Lean production and its roots in Japanese business culture

2009

The Japanese business environment has been studied for many years by researchers and business operators from all over the world. The Japanese culture created a business climate that is different from other industrialized economies. Gerlach defined the Japanese economy as “alliance capitalism” , an expression, which better than others, represents the relational nature of the Japanese society and business system. It is not by chance that the manufacturing and management techniques, later defined as “lean” by MIT authors, were born and raised in Japan. In this dissertation I will attempt to explain why and how these approaches are linked with the Japanese culture and the Japanese business envi…

On the distribution of education and democracy

2006

This paper empirically analyzes the influence of the distribution of education on democracy by controlling for unobservable heterogeneity and by taking into account the persistency of some of the variables. The most novel finding is that increase in the education attained by the majority of the population is what matters for the implementation and sustainability of democracy, rather than the average years of schooling. We show this result is robust to issues pertaining omitted variables, outliers, sample selection, or a narrow definition of the variables used to measure democracy.

Saules paneļu efektivitāte Latvijas klimatā

2019

Darba mērķis ir noteikt optimālo saules paneļu izvietojuma veidu Latvijas klimatiskajos apstākļos. Pētot divu veidu saules paneļus, kas novietoti piecās dažādās telpiskajās orientācijās Latvijas Universitātes Botāniskā dārza teritorijā, tiek noteikta solāro paneļu efektivitātes atkarība no šiem parametriem: Saules paneļu tips (JA vai LG); Telpiskā orientācija (R.13, A.13, D.13, D.40, D.90); Gada mēnesis (janvāris - aprīlis); Meteoroloģiskie apstākļi (saules apstarojums). Iegūtie monitoringa rezultāti tiek analizēti kontekstā ar saules izstarojuma intensitāti, paneļu potenciālās efektivitātes fizikālo novērtējumu un citu mērījumu rezultātiem. Rezultāti liecina, ka optimālie parametri ir LG p…
