An agent-based model to support the preliminary design and operation of heating and power grids with cogeneration units and photovoltaic panels in de…
2022
The increase in the energy demands of residential neighborhoods constitutes a huge challenge to be faced. A viable option lies in the insertion of both renewable energy production systems and cogeneration units within urban territories. On-site production allows for the satisfaction of the heating and electrical demands of end-users and favors the distribution of produced energy within the neighborhood, especially under the regulatory framework of energy communities. This paper proposes a tool to model heating and electricity networks integrated with cogeneration units and PV panels installed in urban areas. The tool accounts for the following possibilities: (i) energy flow management and p…
A procedure to evaluate the seven parameters of the two-diode model for photovoltaic modules
2019
Abstract The paper presents an analytical procedure to calculate the seven parameters of the two-diode model of photovoltaic (PV) panels for any value of the solar irradiance and cell temperature. Six parameters (the photocurrent, the diode reverse saturation currents, the quality factor of the first diode and the series and shunt resistances), are evaluated by solving the equations related to the properties of the main points of the current-voltage (I-V) characteristics. The further information, necessary to calculate the entire set of seven truly independent parameters, is based on two conditions that have to be simultaneously satisfied: 1) the exclusion of negative values of the model pa…
Efficacy and safety of bempedoic acid for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia: A systematic review and meta-analysis
2020
Background Bempedoic acid is a first-in-class lipid-lowering drug recommended by guidelines for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia. Our objective was to estimate its average effect on plasma lipids in humans and its safety profile. Methods and findings We carried out a systematic review and meta-analysis of phase II and III randomized controlled trials on bempedoic acid (PROSPERO: CRD42019129687). PubMed (Medline), Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science databases were searched, with no language restriction, from inception to 5 August 2019. We included 10 RCTs (n = 3,788) comprising 26 arms (active arm [n = 2,460]; control arm [n = 1,328]). Effect sizes for changes in lipids and high-…

ESTUDIO MONOGRAFICO DEL PANEL CERAMICO DEL SACRAMENTO, EN EL REAL COLEGIO DEL CORPUS CHRISTI DE VALENCIA, REALIZADO PARA LA CELEBRACION DE LA BEATIFICACION DEL VIRREY JUAN DE RIBERA EN 1796. PRESENTA UN DOCUMENTO INEDITO QUE CONTIENE VALIOSA INFORMACION SOBRE EL FABRICANTE, LA FECHA DE ENTREGA, ETC. FINALMENTE, EL ARTICULO DESCUBRE LOS MODELOS UTILIZADOS POR EL PINTOR CERAMICO Y LAS FUENTES QUE INSPIRARON A LOS GRABADORES. (A.B.C./ L.A.G.)
Assessment of the Operating Temperature of Crystalline PV Modules Based on Real Use Conditions
2014
Determining the operating temperatureTcof photovoltaic panelsPVis important in evaluating the actual performance of these systems. In the literature, different correlations exist, in either explicit or implicit forms, which often do not account for the electrical behaviour of panels; in this way, estimatingTcis based only on the passive behaviour of thePV. In this paper, the authors propose a new implicit correlation that takes into account the standard weather variables and the electricity production regimes of aPVpanel in terms of the proximity to the maximum power points. To validate its reliability, the new correlation was tested on two different PV panels (Sanyo and Kyocera panels) and…
Panel Discussion on Trends in Optical and Radio Data Analysis
1985
Albrecht: What I want to do is to give a brief five-minute introduction to the subject, justifying the title which puts optical and radio astronomy in one and the same category, which I believe it is, as far as data analysis is concerned, and then I will ask the panel members to give us two-minute statements of their opinions on the subject and then I would like to ask the audience to fire questions at us.

Multidomain BEM for crack analysis in stiffened anisotropic plates.
2014
The present paper is concerned with the application of a boundary element model for the analysis of cracks in stiffened composite panels. The panel stiffeners are reduced to equivalent strips and the multidomain technique is used to model panel zones presenting different properties (skin and stiffeners equivalent strip). Also the crack is modeled exploiting the multidomain formulation. Evaluation of stress intensity factors is performed for representative problems.
Multigene panel testing in Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer: an effective liquid biopsy approach to identify mutations in genes involved in the H…
2021
Background: Hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC) syndrome is an autosomal dominant inherited disorder that include 5–7% of all breast cancer (BC) cases and 10-15% of all ovarian cancer (OC) cases. BRCA1 and BRCA2 are the most common genes associated to HBOC syndrome. However, hereditary syndrome could be associated with germline PVs in several high- and moderate-risk genes. In recent years, Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) has allowed to study multiple genes simultaneously, to reduce analysis costs, to led to an explosion of genetic data, and to offer more information to patients. Methods: We retrospectively collected and analyzed to BRCA1/2 test 876 patients affected by BC and OC (5…
Impact of Novel Energy Management Actions on Household Appliances for Money Savings and CO2 Emissions Reduction
2009
In order to obtain CO2 emissions reductions, energy management control actions inside apartments and detached houses have to be carried out. In this work, new control actions devoted to the reduction of electrical energy consumptions inside typical Italian apartments are proposed. These “Distributed on Site” (DoS) actions consist in employing specific control strategies to smartly exploit the hot water provided by a solar panel, the electricity generated by a photovoltaic panel and the delayed starting of appliances.
