A revision of paradoxidid trilobites reveals that previous identifications of specimens from Sardinia and Spain as the Nordic trilobite species Paradoxides brachyrhachis Linnarsson, 1883, are mistaken. The southern species, occurring also in France, is here referred to Eccaparadoxides mediterraneus (Pompeckj, 1901). Main differences are seen in the preocular field, pleural furrow and pygidium. The species P. brachyrhachis is referred with question to the genus Mawddachites Fletcher 2007.

La influencia de Pierre Bayle en la construcción de la segunda antinomia de la razón pura

This paper aims to establish precisely the scope of Pierre Bayle’s influence on the construction of Kant’s second antinomy of pure reason, since there is a remarkable parallelism between this second cosmological conflict and the argument against extension of the article “Zeno of Elea” of Bayle’s Dictionary. It is argued that Bayle, employing the skeptical method in metaphysical research, has a major influence on the construction of the main arguments of the second antinomy and sets a precedent for its logical solution.
Growth in a time of external imbalances

Abstract Globalization and financial integration have increased in the last three decades giving rise to cumulated large external imbalances. The question we address in this paper is whether economic growth can be affected by these external imbalances. We estimate an augmented growth equation with the external stock position of the countries measured by the net foreign asset position. Unlike previous literature, we use non-parametric methods that capture non-linearities and heterogeneity, and apply them to a sample that includes 106 developed and developing countries for the period 1983-2011. Grape polyphenols are abundant. They play essential roles in the plant's life, particularly in defence mechanisms. Moreover, the grape, fresh or dried, is a widely consumed fruit by humans, as are its by-products, grape juice and wine. They also contain vast and highly varied quantities of polyphenols. Like other phytophenols, grape and wine resveratrol is considered a protective micronutrient. Resveratrol is a well known antioxidant, for example, a protector of low-density lipoproteins against oxidation. Its applications are therefore highly varied. From Carneades to Cicero

This chapter is about how Stoic epistemology developed in the two centuries after Chrysippus’ death. I first show that, as a result of Carneades’ critique in the mid-second century, there was a shift of emphasis in the epistemological debate between the Stoa and the Academy. From then on the task was not to explain what causal features a cognitive thought has, but to describe what phenomenological features it has. I show that the later Stoics responded to this challenge in two different ways. Some changed Chrysippus’ theory quite radically. Eliminating self-reference from Grelling's and Zwicker's paradoxes

El objetivo de este artículo es ofrecer versiones de las paradojas de Grelling (sobre el predicado"heterológico") y de Zwicker (sobre el hiperjuego) inspiradas en la paradoja de Yablo. Nuestras versiones de estas paradojas no parecen involucrar ni autorreferencia ni circularidad viciosa. The goal of this paper is to present Yabloesque versions of Grelling¿s and Zwicker¿s paradoxes concerning the notions of ¿heterological¿ and ¿hypergame¿ respectively. We will offer counterparts of these paradoxes that do not seem to involve self-reference or vicious circularity.
A FailedCassatio: Goldstein on the Liar

The purpose of this note is to express some doubts about Goldstein's cassationist solution to the Liar Paradox. After sketching his theory (§I), we argue that the notions he introduces in order to solve the Strengthened Liar give rise to paradoxes the theory cannot deal with (§II).
