Abstract In this paper, we present a practical and inexpensive impedance/gain-phase analyzer (IGPA), which is very useful in the design of electronic circuits. This instrument allows the Bode diagram of any network or electronic circuit with an input and an output to be obtained, even though this implementation was not previously known. It can also obtain the module and phase diagrams of any impedance separately. The device under test (DUT) is connected to a personal computer (PC) via the parallel port by means of an electronic circuit implemented for this purpose. Design and experimental verification of a smart sensor to measure the energy and power consumption in a one-phase AC line

Abstract A mixed electronic system has been designed to measure the active, apparent and reactive energies delivered to a load in a single-phase AC voltage line. For this purpose a smart sensor (ADE7753 from Analog Devices) was used. A magnetoresistance sensor is used as a current transducer and it is constant current biased by a generalized impedance converter. The magnetoresistance sensor technology provides direct isolation from the mains voltage and ferrite cores are not needed like Hall counterparts. All the measurements provided by the ADE7753 are read through the parallel port of the computer using a LabView application, which will process and present the readings to the user.
Development and validation of a nonlinear dynamic impact model for a notch impact

Finite element simulations are being more and more applied when studying the crash-worthiness of vehicles during impact. This paper deals with setting up such a simulation and discusses several ways to simplify and verify a simulated crash. For this purpose, a notch impact-testing machine will be released from a certain angle and crash into a model constructed with three different wall thicknesses. The plastic and elastic deformation is measured in the front of the model and is then used for validation of the simulation. In the end, the simulation was found to be in good agreement with the real crash data.

Strategies for accelerating ant colony optimization algorithms on graphical processing units

Ant colony optimization (ACO) is being used to solve many combinatorial problems. However, existing implementations fail to solve large instances of problems effectively. In this paper we propose two ACO implementations that use graphical processing units to support the needed computation. We also provide experimental results by solving several instances of the well-known orienteering problem to show their features, emphasizing the good properties that make these implementations extremely competitive versus parallel approaches.
Scheduling on Two Types of Resources: a Survey

International audience; We study the problem of executing an application represented by a precedence task graph on a parallel machine composed of standard computing cores and accelerators. Contrary to most existing approaches, we distinguish the allocation and the scheduling phases and we mainly focus on the allocation part of the problem: choose the most appropriate type of computing unit for each task. We address both off-line and on-line settings and design generic scheduling approaches. Compensation of compliance errors in parallel manipulators composed of non-perfect kinematic chains

The paper is devoted to the compliance errors compensation for parallel manipulators under external loading. Proposed approach is based on the non-linear stiffness modeling and reduces to a proper adjusting of a target trajectory. In contrast to previous works, in addition to compliance errors caused by machining forces, the problem of assembling errors caused by inaccuracy in the kinematic chains is considered. The advantages and practical significance of the proposed approach are illustrated by examples that deal with groove milling with Orthoglide manipulator.

The paper presents the compliance errors compensation technique for over-constrained parallel manipulators under external and internal loadings. This technique is based on the non-linear stiffness modeling which is able to take into account the influence of non-perfect geometry of serial chains caused by manufacturing errors. Within the developed technique, the deviation compensation reduces to an adjustment of a target trajectory that is modified in the off-line mode.
