SPH modeling of blood flow in cerebral aneurysms

D’altra p…

Parallel Behaviour – Primary Evidence of an Agreement

2013

Abstract The distinction between legitimate oligopoly and cartels is tackled by each competition authority. A parallel behaviour in an oligopolistic market might be seen as an anchor for competition's effectiveness, given that companies are required to respond to the decisions of other competitors, trying to keep a realistic and competitive position to ensure welfare. Cartels offer an opposite perspective of what competition really means. Apart from the observation of the econometrical model presented in the article, the final assessment should consider the particularities of the legal and economic environment, to conclude on the existence of a cartel based on reasonable grounds.

Examining Quality of Life After Treatment with Azelaic and Pyruvic Acid Peels in Women with Acne Vulgaris

2020

Purpose This randomized parallel study aims to investigate the azelaic acid (AA), and pyruvic acid (PA) peels treatment effect on health-related quality of life (QOL) in young adult women with acne vulgaris. Patients and Methods The participants were 120 female undergraduate students, with mild to moderate facial acne and an average age of 22 years old (M = 22.2, SD = 16.1). Eligibility criteria were as follows: female gender, 18-25 years of age, no dermatological treatment within the last 12 months and mild to moderate papulopustular acne. Patients were randomly divided into two groups, the first group was treated with AA, and the second group was treated with PA. Both groups received trea…

Mepolizumab for eosinophilic chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

2017

BACKGROUNDPatients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with an eosinophilic phenotype may benefit from treatment with mepolizumab, a monoclonal antibody directed against interleukin-5.METHODSWe performed two phase 3, randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, parallel-group trials comparing mepolizumab (100 mg in METREX, 100 or 300 mg in METREO) with placebo, given as a subcutaneous injection every 4 weeks for 52 weeks in patients with COPD who had a history of moderate or severe exacerbations while taking inhaled glucocorticoid-based triple maintenance therapy. In METREX, unselected patients in the modified intention-to-treat population with an eosinophilic phenotype were …

Open Access Survey - The Summary : Survey of Academic Attitudes towards Open Access and Institutional Repositories

2012

The University of Jyväskylä aims to be an institution advancing free scholarly information. To support this the Rector has recommended researchers, starting from the beginning of 2011, to save the final draft (aka post-print) files of their research articles in TUTKA register at the same time when recording the relating data. By the end of the year 2011 was seen that only 200 articles had been posted. It became necessary to find out what researchers generally think about the Open Access issues. The results indicate that Open Access is received very positively amont the researchers. OA thinking is not, however, reflected as strong in researcher's own publishing activity. It is obvious that a…

Kotimaiset tieteelliset lehdet, rinnakkaistallennus sekä huomioita SHERPA/RoMEOsta

2017

This report examines the actions taken for promoting the green OA in Finnish scholarly journals and their effects in 2016 and 2017. A Finnish-language form for suggesting publisher policies to SHERPA/RoMEO database was developed. It was linked into instructions for applying the government subsidy of scholarly publishing. Finally, a resolution on archiving was negotiated with the copyright organization responsible for distributing remunerations of a national license based article database (Elektra). Due to these actions, the number of announced self-archiving policies rose from 27 to 53. 24 policies were collected via the Finnish form and sent to SHERPA/RoMEO. In this connection, some shorta…

Original data for article Kotimaiset tieteelliset julkaisusarjat ja avoimuus (Finnish scientific journals and their openness)

2020

Information on openness, green open access and copyrights of Finnish scientific journals ranked on levels 1-3 (Jufo classification). Data consists of 336 journals and their policies on open science, open access and copyrights. Variables include DOAJ and SHERPA status, Open Access, Delayed Open Access, hybrid publishing, writer's fee, information on green open access, OA license, copyright, journal's format and is it included in journal.fi Data has been collected using Julkaisufoorumi (https://www.julkaisufoorumi.fi/en), SHERPA/Romeo (https://v2.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/) and journals' webpages. Trajectory subgroups of perceived emotional support from teachers : Associations with change in mastery climate and intentions to quit upper secondar…

2022

The aims of this three-wave longitudinal study were to identify and describe trajectories of perceived emotional support from teachers and investigate whether these trajectories were related to the development of intentions to quit upper secondary school via change in perceived mastery climate. Among 1379 Norwegian upper secondary school students, three trajectory subgroups were identified: stable high (84.9%), decreasing (7.8%), and low increasing (7.3%). The subgroups differed in levels of achievement ambition and academic self-concept. Further, a parallel process latent growth curve model revealed essential associations with change in intentions to quit school. Specifically, students wit…

Evolutionary Dynamics of Pathoadaptation Revealed by Three Independent Acquisitions of the VirB/D4 Type IV Secretion System in Bartonella

2017

The α-proteobacterial genus Bartonella comprises a group of ubiquitous mammalian pathogens that are studied as a model for the evolution of bacterial pathogenesis. Vast abundance of two particular phylogenetic lineages of Bartonella had been linked to enhanced host adaptability enabled by lineage-specific acquisition of a VirB/D4 type IV secretion system (T4SS) and parallel evolution of complex effector repertoires. However, the limited availability of genome sequences from one of those lineages as well as other, remote branches of Bartonella has so far hampered comprehensive understanding of how the VirB/D4 T4SS and its effectors called Beps have shaped Bartonella evolution. Here, we repor…
