Parental Trust in Teachers and Children’s Interest in Reading and Math: A Longitudinal Study

This study investigated cross-lagged associations between parental trust in a child’s teacher and children’s academic interest across Grades 1–4 in primary school. Parents rated trust in their child’s teacher, and 576 children reported their interest in reading and math at each grade. The results showed that high parental trust in a child’s teacher predicted the child’s high interest in math. In addition, the child’s high interest in reading in Grade 2 was related to the father’s subsequent trust in the teacher. peerReviewed

Koulussa ilmenevää kiusaamista on tutkittu varsin runsaasti. Useimmiten mielenkiinnon kohteena on ollut oppilaiden välisissä vuorovaikutussuhteissa esiintyvä koulukiusaaminen. Kuitenkin myös opettajat joutuvat oppilaidensa kiusaamiksi ja opettajat kiusaavat oppilaitaan. Lisäksi opettajat kokevat kiusaamista oppilaiden vanhempien taholta. Näistä koulun vertaisrajat ylittävistä kiusaamissuhteista tiedetään toistaiseksi varsin vähän, minkä lisäksi vertaisrajat ylittävän kiusaamisen käsitettä ei voida pitää vakiintuneena. Purpose: To study the association of parents’ reports about their children’s near work and outdoor habits with myopia in their children. Methods: Data from a questionnaire study conducted in 1983 among Finnish schoolchildren were reanalyzed. Vision screening had been performed for all the schoolchildren (n = 4961) in the 1st, 5th, and 8th grades (7-, 11-, and 15-year-olds) in an area of Central Finland. Purpose To study the prevalence and risk factors of myopia with data from a questionnaire study conducted in 1983 among Finnish school children. Methods School children (n = 4 961) from the 1st, 5th and 8th grades of school (7-, 11- and 15-year-olds) in Central Finland were screened for vision followed by a questionnaire, which was returned by 4 352 (87.7%) participants.
