The process through which glossaries came into being can sometimes still be seen and studied in surviving manuscripts, and in such cases it provides a valuable index to the way in which Latin texts were studied in medieval schools. This is the case with an unprinted glossary in London, British Library, Cotton Domitian i. The glossary is mainly made up of words taken from bk III of the Bella Parisiacae urbis by Abbo of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, a work which was widely studied in English schools in the tenth and eleventh centuries, above all because of its unusual vocabulary. Gender differences in the jealousy-evoking effect of rival characteristics

This study examines gender differences in the jealousy-evoking nature of rival characteristics in two Spanish-speaking countries (Argentina and Spain). A total of 388 Spanish students and 444 Argentinean students participated in the study. First, the cross-cultural validity of a Dutch scale containing 56 rival characteristics was examined. A factor analysis distinguished four dimensions (i.e., social power and dominance, physical attractiveness, physical dominance, and social-communal attributes). Summary Aim To conduct a multi-language translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the Intermittent and Constant OsteoArthritis Pain (ICOAP) questionnaire for hip and knee osteoarthritis (OA). Methods The questionnaires were translated and cross-culturally adapted in parallel, using a common protocol, into the following languages: Czech, Dutch, French (France), German, Italian, Norwegian, Spanish (Castillan), North and Central American Spanish, Swedish. Year 2019 marks the first anniversary of the renewal of the Most Holy Trinity Parish in Jaworzno near the town of Wieluń. This event was celebrated both by inhabitants and clergy on 15–16 June 2019. On that occasion, on Saturday on the 15th of June, a historical conference entitled “The Jubilee of the 100 years of the Most Holy Trinity Parish in Jaworzno near the town of Wieluń” was held. Computing Sum of Products about the Mean with Pairwise Algorithms

We discuss pairwise algorithms, a kind of computational algorithm which can be useful in dynamically updating statistics as new samples of data are collected. Since test data are usually collected through time as individual data sets, these algorithms would be profitably used in computer programs to treat this situation. Pair-wise algorithms are presented for calculating the sum of products of deviations about the mean for adding a sample of data (or removing one) to the whole data set.

Comparing the means of two normal populations is an old problem in mathematical statistics, but there is still no consensus about its most appropriate solution. In this paper we treat the problem of comparing two normal means as a Bayesian decision problem with only two alternatives: either to accept the hypothesis that the two means are equal, or to conclude that the observed data are, under the assumed model, incompatible with that hypothesis. Lower semicontinuity of weak supersolutions to the porous medium equation

Weak supersolutions to the porous medium equation are defined by means of smooth test functions under an integral sign. We show that nonnegative weak supersolutions become lower semicontinuous after redefinition on a set of measure zero. This shows that weak supersolutions belong to a class of supersolutions defined by a comparison principle.
