Performance comparison of HARQ and ARQ mechanisms in IEEE 802.16 networks
2008
The IEEE 802.16 technology defines several link level mechanisms to retransmit erroneous data. In this paper we compare the performance of the ARQ and HARQ mechanisms in the IEEE 802.16 networks. Our simulations results show that in general HARQ provides a better performance. However, ARQ can compete successfully with it due to a smaller signaling overhead. Furthermore, since ARQ does not require a dedicated uplink signaling channel for the acknowledgments messages, it results in better resources utilization in the uplink direction.
Neighbor discovery and resource allocation for device-to-device communication
2014
Masteroppgave i Informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi IKT590 Universitetet i Agder 2014 Device-to-Device (D2D) communication has attracted lots of attention as one of the most advanced wirelesscommunication technologies which allows access to services offered by nearby devices bypassing the BaseStation (BS). The potential advantages of this direct communication paradigm include high data rate, networkoffloading and range extension, as well as commercial proximity services and social networking. From the UserEquipments (UEs) and BS perspective, additional protocol overhead and discovery resource are required forD2D links. In such a context, neighbor discovery and resource allocation appro…

Attitudes and motivation in the treatment of IPV : a case study of two intimately violent men
2017
This case study used qualitative content analysis to examine the cases of two intimately violent men. Both participated in a group intervention but experienced dramatically different outcomes. In the case of "Henri", the intervention was especially successful, but in the case of "Mikael" it was unsuccessful. The data of this study consisted of the video tapes of the men’s therapy sessions, and of the interviews of their spouses. The research questions were the following: 1) Were there changes in the men’s attitudes toward a) women, b) masculinity and c) violent behavior?, 2) How high was the men’s motivation for treatment and making changes in themselves? and 3) Did their attitudes and moti…
Technique of Statistical Validation of Rival Models for Fatigue Crack Growth Process and Its Identification
2011
The development of suitable models of stochastic crack growth process is important for the reliability analysis of fatigued structures as well as the scheduling of inspection and repair/replacement maintenance. Based on modifications of the solution of the deterministic differential equation for the crack growth rate, where a stochastic nature of this rate is expressed by a random disturbance embedded in the solution of the differential equation, the simple stochastic models are presented for practical applications. Each of these models represents a stochastic version of the solution of the Paris-Erdogan law equation. The models take into account the random disturbance parameters while main…
Higher education for a better life: Canada in international context
2015
International audience; This study examines the impact of higher education on the wellbeing of Canadians in international context using single- and multi-level models examined separately for women and men. The results indicate that the relationship between higher education and wellbeing differs substantially between countries, with Canada standing out as an unusual case.
Comparative Assessment of Mould Growth Risk in Lightweight Insulating Assemblies Via Analysis of Hygrothermal Data and In Situ Evaluation
2019
In order to assess the sustainability of buildings with different types of insulating assemblies in the Latvian climate, a long-term test building monitoring experiment has been underway since 2013. There are a total of five test buildings on site with roughly six years’ worth of accumulated temperature and humidity readings in the key parts of assemblies. This study is meant to quantify the mould presence in building walls, floor and ceiling by performing laboratory tests, assessing the number of colony-forming units, and comparing the results with mould risk predictions due to the isopleth model developed by Sedlbauer, using both the hygrothermal data derived from the sensors within build…
IANUS: Comparative analysis
2002
Jointly with the application of IANUS model in the selected facilities, in WP4 Ambiente Italia has to produce an evaluation and comparison between different facilities and core indicators. The aim of this paper is to show collected data, computed indicators and comparison facilities throuh suggested indicator evaluation system.
Testing Prospect Theory in a Deterministic Multiple Criteria Decision-Making Environment
1993
Prospect theory by Kahneman and Tversky [7] is tested in a deterministic multiple criteria decision-making context. In two experiments conducted in classroom settings subjects made pairwise preference comparisons of condominiums for sale. The results of the experiments indicate that the traditional value model did not explain the subjects' revealed preferences as well as the prospect model. We conclude that prospect theory is a reasonable model of choice for many individuals in such a context.
