Histologic analysis of specimens from laparoscopic endometrioma excision performed by different surgeons: does the surgeon matter?

2011

Objective To evaluate whether the amount of ovarian tissue inadvertently removed along with the endometrioma cyst wall at laparoscopy differs in relation to the operating surgeon's level of expertise. Design Multicenter, prospective trial. Setting Four tertiary care university hospitals. Patient(s) Fifty patients, aged 25 to 40 years, with monolateral ovarian endometriomas who underwent laparoscopic excision. Intervention(s) Operation with the stripping technique by surgeons with specific expertise in endometriosis surgery in four centers (groups A, B, C, and D) and by residents with average training in laparoscopic surgery (group E). Main Outcome Measure(s) Histologic examination for the e…

Colorectal infiltrating deep endometriosis: Laparoscopic treatment. A case report

2022

Endometriosis is a disease affecting approximately 10% of women of fertile age. A particular presentation is deep infiltrating endometriosis of the rectosigmoid colon with symptoms that can mimic an intestinal obstruction or neoplasm. We report the case of a 39-year-old woman with pelvic pain during the menstrual cycle and significant anemia who presented an ectopic endometrial tissue in correspondence of the rectum. Because of the thickness of the lesion the patient underwent a segmental laparoscopic colorectal resection with end-to-end anastomosis.

Early diagnosis and surgical management of heterotopic pregnancy allows us to save the intrauterine pregnancy

2021

Heterotopic pregnancy is a rare but intriguing disease, which poses a high risk for pregnant women and for intrauterine pregnancy. Clinically, it is mainly characterized by pain and vaginal bleeding. b-hCG serum dosage is used to detect the pregnancy, but transvaginal ultrasound is needed to diagnose heterotopic pregnancy. From all the risk factors, the assisted reproductive treatments represent the most important, especially when multiple embryos are transferred. Patients with a heterotopic pregnancy are at risk of having a spontaneous or medically induced abortion, and for this reason appropriate and tailored treatment should be considered, pursuing the optimal risk/benefit ratio. Beyond Sentinel Lymph Node: Outcomes of Indocyanine Green-Guided Pelvic Lymphadenectomy in Endometrial and Cervical Cancer

2023

Background: The aim of our study was to compare the number of lymph nodes removed during indocyanine green (ICG)-guided laparoscopic/robotic pelvic lymphadenectomy with standard systematic lymphadenectomy in endometrial cancer (EC) and cervical cancer (CC). Methods: This is a multicenter retrospective comparative study (Clinical Trial ID: NCT04246580; updated on 31 January 2023). Women affected by EC and CC who underwent laparoscopic/robotic systematic pelvic lymphadenectomy, with (cases) or without (controls) the use of ICG tracer injection within the uterine cervix, were included in the study. Results: The two groups were homogeneous for age (p = 0.08), Body Mass Index, International Fede…

Laparoscopic retropubic colposuspension for the treatment of genuine stress incontinence. long term follow up

2003

Objectives: The minimal surgical treatment of stress urinary incontinence with endoscopic operation has four basic advantages compared with traditional open procedures: decreased blood loss due to better visualization of the space of Retzius, decreased postoperative pain, shorter hospitalization and faster recovery. Comparative studies have shown a higher subjective and objective cure rate for the retropubic urethropexy(Burch procedure) than for the anterior colporraphy or endoscopic needle urethropexy(1). The aim of this study is to evaluate the safety, the efficacy and morbility of laparoscopic Burch procedure for the surgical treatment of genuine stress incontinence. Methods: We reviewed…

LAPAROSCOPIC SACROCOLPOPEXY IN THE TREATMENT OF VAGINAL VAULT PROLAPSE AND RECTOCELE. RETROSPECTIVE STUDY OF 64 CASES

2003

Objectives: To evaluate the results of the laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy using a polypropylene mesh. Methods: We performed laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy on 64 pts who presented a prolapse of the vaginal vault between the II and the IV degree according to HWS classification. The mean age was 65 (range 58-76) with variable parity. The vaginal vault prolapse was present after abdominal hysterectomy in 33 pts.(51%) and after vaginal hysterectomy in 24 pts. (38%). 7 pts. (11%) were affected by an isterocele of III -IV . 8pts(12%) presented a vault prolapse of I degree, 16pts.(25%) of II degree, 15pts.(23%) of III degree, 18 pts.(%) of VI degree. They were also affected by different degrees of cystour…
