Mo-containing tetragonal tungsten bronzes. The influence of tellurium on catalytic behaviour in selective oxidation of propene

2009

Abstract Te-free and Te-containing multicomponent Mo-based catalysts presenting tetragonal tungsten bronze (TTB) structure have been prepared, characterized and tested for the selective oxidation of propene. The catalysts were prepared hydrothermally and heat treated at 700 °C. The structural characterization performed by means of XRD, FTIR, SAED and HRTEM confirms the incorporation of tellurium to the TTB structural framework and shows that its presence does not modify in essence the crystalline structure. However, the incorporation of Te strongly modifies the catalytic performance, and the highest yield to acrolein has been achieved on catalysts with Te/Mo atomic ratios in bulk of 0.03. T…

Photocatalytic partial oxidation of limonene to 1,2 limonene oxide

2018

The silylation of crystalline TiO2 P25, commonly used for photocatalytic degradation of pollutants, results in an exceptionally selective catalyst for the aerobic limonene epoxidation to 1,2-limonene oxide under solar light irradiation. The hypothesized mechanism involves the singlet oxygen generated through energy transfer from the excited TiO2 to adsorbed O2 molecules. The reaction product is the valued precursor of bio-based poly(limonene carbonate), a thermoplastic polymer of superior thermal and optical properties whose industrial production is in need of an efficient green synthesis of limonene oxide.

Photocatalytic Partial Oxidation of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural Under UV and Natural Solar Irradiation in Aqueous Suspension of K Containing C3N4

2020

Background: The influence of the potassium metal cation on the graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) photocatalyst has been studied in the partial oxidation of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural (HMF) to 2,5-furandicarboxaldehyde (FDC). Objective: The aim of this study was to understand if the presence of K in C3N4 could increase the oxidative conversion of HMF to high added value species. Methods: Two sets of photocatalysts were prepared by following two different methodologies. In both series of the materials, the precursor of C3N4 was melamine with different types of the K containing species including KCl and KOH in one case and KNO3 alone in the other case. However, for both series of photocatalys…

Structural and electrical properties of cerium tungstate: Application to methane conversion

2020

International audience; The catalytic efficiency as well as the electrical conduction mechanism of Ce2(WO4)3 powders synthetized for the oxidation of methane were investigated. Total and partial oxidation reactions were observed in the temperature range between 600 and 750 °C under CH4/dry air flux, for low CH4 concentrations. The electrical conduction mechanism is based on electron tunneling at low temperature (< 650 °C) and hopping over an ion barrier at high temperature, which favors the catalytic oxidation of CH4 in air; these mechanisms occur during the partial and total oxidation under weak gas flow. The occurrence of these types of conduction mechanism was related both to the distort…

Polymeric carbon nitride (C3N4) as heterogeneous photocatalyst for selective oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes

2018

Abstract Polymeric carbon nitride (C3N4) is a semiconductor material which is a very promising green photocatalyst with good physico-chemical properties and stability. It is a metal-free carbon based non-toxic material which can be easily obtained from earth-abundant components. The robustness and versatility of C3N4 as a photo-redox catalyst allows its use for selective oxidations by heterogeneous photocatalysis. This paper reviews the state of art in the application of C3N4 as heterogeneous photocatalyst for selective oxidation of alcohols to the corresponding aldehydes.

Frictional behaviour of oxygen diffusion hardened titanium in dry sliding against Co–28Cr–5W–4Fe–3Ni–1Si cobalt alloy

2004

Abstract The results of conformal pin-on-disc tribological tests of a hard layer of the solid solution of oxygen in α-titanium sliding against a Co–28Cr–5W–4Fe–3Ni–1Si cobalt alloy counterspecimen are presented. The α-Ti(O) layer was diffusely produced over 2–8 h of oxidising in the superficial zone of a technical quality titanium specimen. The friction and wear responses of the system were recorded and the wear mechanisms were studied. Investigations of the material structure and chemical constitution in micro-areas of the titanium specimen, cobalt alloy counterspecimen and wear debris formed in dry sliding were performed with a Philips XL20 microscope equipped with an EDAX analyser. (Ag)Pd-Fe3O4 Nanocomposites as Novel Catalysts for Methane Partial Oxidation at Low Temperature

2020

Nanostructured composite materials based on noble mono-(Pd) or bi-metallic (Ag/Pd) particles supported on mixed iron oxides (II/III) with bulk magnetite structure (Fe3O4) have been developed in order to assess their potential for heterogeneous catalysis applications in methane partial oxidation. Advancing the direct transformation of methane into value-added chemicals is consensually accepted as the key to ensuring sustainable development in the forthcoming future. On the one hand, nanosized Fe3O4 particles with spherical morphology were synthesized by an aqueous-based reflux method employing different Fe (II)/Fe (III) molar ratios (2 or 4) and reflux temperatures (80, 95 or 110 &deg

CO2 reduction by C3N4-TiO2 Nafion photocatalytic membrane reactor as a promising environmental pathway to solar fuels

2019

Abstract We investigated CO2 photocatalytic reduction coupling, for the first time in literature, the assets offered by the continuous operating mode using C3N4-TiO2 photo-catalyst embedded in a dense Nafion matrix. The reactor performance was analyzed under UV–vis light in terms of productivity, selectivity and converted carbon. Reaction pressure was specifically investigated for its effect as a “driver” in determining reactor performance, modulating products removal from the reaction volume. In addition, the membrane reactor performance was explored as a function of H2O/CO2 feed molar ratio and contact time. The higher feed pressure (5 bar) led to a lesser MeOH production and a greater am…
