Relationship between employee involvement and lean manufacturing and its effect on performance in a rigid continuous process industry

2015

Relationship between employee involvement and lean manufacturing and its effect on performance in a rigid continuous process industry DOI: 10.1080/00207543.2014.975852 Juan A. Marin-Garciaa* & Tomas Bonaviab Received: 1 Aug 2013 Accepted: 30 Sep 2014 Published online: 04 Nov 2014 This research aims to empirically test the effect of employee involvement on lean manufacturing (LM), and the effect of LM on production outcomes. Employee involvement is operationalised through four related variables: empowerment, training, contingent remuneration and communication. The effects are tested by recording management perceptions in a different industrial sector from those usually studied in previous re…

Nonlinear extended thermodynamics of a dilute nonviscous gas

2002

This paper deals with further developments of a nonlinear theory for a nonviscous gas in the presence of heat flux, which has been proposed in previous papers, using extended thermodynamics. The fundamental fields used are the density, the velocity, the internal energy density, and the heat flux. Using the Liu procedure, the constitutive theory is built up without approximations and the consistence of the model is showed: it is shown that the model is determined by the choice of three scalar functions which must satisfy a system of partial differential equations, which always has solutions. Different changes of field variables are carried out, using different Legendre transformations, passi…

A Fisher–Kolmogorov equation with finite speed of propagation

2010

Abstract In this paper we study a Fisher–Kolmogorov type equation with a flux limited diffusion term and we prove the existence and uniqueness of finite speed moving fronts and the existence of some explicit solutions in a particular regime of the equation.

Graphene coating obtained in a cold-wall CVD process on the Co-Cr Alloy (L-605) for medical applications

2021

Graphene coating on the cobalt-chromium alloy was optimized and successfully carried out by a cold-wall chemical vapor deposition (CW-CVD) method. A uniform layer of graphene for a large area of the Co-Cr alloy (discs of 10 mm diameter) was confirmed by Raman mapping coated area and analyzing specific G and 2D bands

Missing Value Estimation for Microarray Data by Bayesian Principal Component Analysis and Iterative Local Least Squares

2013

Published version of an article from the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from Hindawi: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/162938 Missing values are prevalent in microarray data, they course negative influence on downstream microarray analyses, and thus they should be estimated from known values. We propose a BPCA-iLLS method, which is an integration of two commonly used missing value estimation methods-Bayesian principal component analysis (BPCA) and local least squares (LLS). The inferior row-average procedure in LLS is replaced with BPCA, and the least squares method is put into an iterative framework. Comparative result shows that the proposed method has obtaine…

Effect of the cerium loading on the HMS structure. Preparation, characterization and catalytic properties

2013

Abstract Ce–HMS mesoporous materials were prepared by incipient wetness method starting from HMS synthesized in acid condition. The effect of cerium quantity, in the range of Ce/Si atomic ratio 0.02–0.3, on its structure and properties was investigated. Results showed that the HMS hexagonal structure was maintained after the cerium adding. Furthermore, the surface area and the pore volume were reduced. The presence of the cerianite nanoparticles located within the HMS channels up to 0.05, thus covering the HMS surface at higher Ce/Si atomic ratio, was observed. The catalytic performances of the materials were tested in ethanol partial oxidation reaction.

A study on spectral optimisation in partial response CPM signals

1995

An optimisation technique for the minimisation of the effective bandwidth in partial response CPM signals is described. The minimum Euclidean distance is used as optimisation constraint because the bit error probability is a function of this parameter for high values of signal to noise ratio. The procedure has been implemented for a correlation length corresponding to two signalling intervals. The optimisation problem leads to a system of two nonlinear differential equations for the pulse shape, together with some boundary conditions. Numerical solution of the differential equations has been performed; initial conditions have been adjusted, to satisfy the boundary conditions using an iterat…

AnySeq: A High Performance Sequence Alignment Library based on Partial Evaluation

2020

Sequence alignments are fundamental to bioinformatics which has resulted in a variety of optimized implementations. Unfortunately, the vast majority of them are hand-tuned and specific to certain architectures and execution models. This not only makes them challenging to understand and extend, but also difficult to port to other platforms. We present AnySeq - a novel library for computing different types of pairwise alignments of DNA sequences. Our approach combines high performance with an intuitively understandable implementation, which is achieved through the concept of partial evaluation. Using the AnyDSL compiler framework, AnySeq enables the compilation of algorithmic variants that ar…

Adding Partial Functions to Constraint Logic Programming with Sets

2015

AbstractPartial functions are common abstractions in formal specification notations such as Z, B and Alloy. Conversely, executable programming languages usually provide little or no support for them. In this paper we propose to add partial functions as a primitive feature to a Constraint Logic Programming (CLP) language, namely {log}. Although partial functions could be programmed on top of {log}, providing them as first-class citizens adds valuable flexibility and generality to the form of set-theoretic formulas that the language can safely deal with. In particular, the paper shows how the {log} constraint solver is naturally extended in order to accommodate for the new primitive constrain…
