Abstract A green method for the determination of polymerised triacylglyceride (PTG) in deep-frying vegetable oils of different botanic origin has been developed employing near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and Partial Least Squares (PLS) regression. Four different types of oil were heated during several hours, with and without the addition of foodstuff. NIR transmission spectra were obtained directly from sample aliquots stored in glass vials, thus avoiding the consumption of solvents and minimising waste generation. Contamination of mafic magma by partial melting of dolomitic xenoliths

Mg-skarns enclosed in dunite cumulates of the Neo-Proterozoic Ioko-Dovyren intrusion (northern Baikal region, Russia) can be traced to silica-poor dolomitic host rock layers. The dominant minerals of the skarns are brucite (pseudomorph after periclase), forsterite and Cr-poor spinel. Rapid heating of quartzpoor dolomitic xenoliths led to the formation of minor olivine, followed by the breakdown of dolomite to calcite and periclase. Xenoliths were partially melted upon further heating resulting in a calcite melt. Contrasting types of metasomatism in dunite, wehrlite and websterite xenoliths from Kimberley, South Africa

Abstract Dunite, wehrlite and websterite are rare members of the mantle xenolith suite in the Kimberley kimberlites of the Kaapvaal Craton in southern Africa. All three types were originally residues of extensive melt extraction and experienced varying amounts and types of melt re-enrichment. The melt depletion event, dated by Re–Os isotope systematics at 2.9 Ga or older, is evidenced by the high Mg# (Mg/(Mg + Fe)) of silicate minerals (olivine (0.89–0.93); pyroxene (0.88–0.93); garnet (0.72–0.85)), high Cr# (Cr/(Cr + Al)) of spinel (0.53–0.84) and mostly low whole-rock SiO2, CaO and Al2O3 contents. Relationship of Mediterranean type lamproites to large shoshonite volcanoes, Miocene of Lesbos, NE Aegean Sea

Abstract Shoshonites, which are high-K trachyandesitic rocks, are found in many orogenic belts and are commonly of post-collisional origin. The petrogenesis of shoshonites has been widely debated. Small lava flows and dykes of lamproite and related lamproitic rocks of early Miocene age in Lesbos are coeval with voluminous shoshonite volcanoes. Their distinctive petrology and isotope geochemistry provide an exceptional opportunity to assess the petrogenetic relationship between lamproites and shoshonites. Vinblastine and interferon-alpha-2a regimen in the treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma.

Thirteen patients with histologically proven advanced and/or metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC) were treated with vinblastine (Velbe, Eli Lilly, Sesto Fiorentino, Italy) and interferon-alpha-2a (Roferon-A, Roche, Milan). Eleven out of 13 patients were evaluable. Eighteen percent of patients had partial response, 46 % stable disease (SD), and 36 % progressive disease (PD). The mean survival of responders was 228+ days, whereas the patients showing SD and PD had a mean survival of 154+ and 107+ days respectively. Toxicity, including influenza-like syndrome, fever, neurological and gastrointestinal side effects, was generally mild. However, medication with paracetamol was required in 82 % …

Abstract Background The single‐arm DAWN trial (NCT01779791) of ibrutinib monotherapy in patients with relapsed/refractory follicular lymphoma (FL) showed an overall response rate (ORR) of 20.9% and a median response duration of 19.4 months. This biomarker analysis of the DAWN dataset sought to determine genetic classifiers for prediction of response to ibrutinib treatment. Capturing colorectal cancer inter-tumor heterogeneity in patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models

Patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models have become an important asset in translational cancer research. However, to provide a robust preclinical platform, PDXs need to accommodate the tumor heterogeneity that is observed in patients. Colorectal cancer (CRC) can be stratified into four consensus molecular subtypes (CMS) with distinct biological and clinical features. Surprisingly, using a set of CRC patients, we revealed the partial representation of tumor heterogeneity in PDX models. Linear and nonlinear fiber propagation of partially coherent fields exhibiting temporal correlations

International audience; Using ultrafast photonic first-order differentiator applied on a partially coherent field, we report the generation of two correlated temporal waveforms and study their correlation properties upon linear and nonlinear propagation along the two orthogonal polarization axis of a dispersive optical fiber. Temporal correlations are maintained in linear propagation whereas Kerr nonlinearity generates anti-correlated temporal intensity patterns for both partially and uncorrelated fields. Experiments are in close agreement with the theoretical analysis.

Abstract The chemical changes taking place in the systems: LDPE–Irganox 1081, LDPE–dicumyl peroxide and LDPE–Irganox 1081–dicumyl peroxide, after homogenisation (in a rolling mill at 130°C) and after homogenisation and cross-linking (at 180°C and 5.0 MPa for 20 min) were investigated by FTIR. It was found that the OH groups in Irganox 1081 were in a bound form, and were most probably linked to the sulphur co-ordination centre. Further, the presence of dicumyl peroxide without Irganox 1081 in LDPE resulted in the formation of hydroperoxide groups at a temperature of 130°C, which were replaced by free hydroxy and carbonyl groups of a ketonic type after cross-linking.
