Uniform ergodicity of the iterated conditional SMC and geometric ergodicity of particle Gibbs samplers

2018

We establish quantitative bounds for rates of convergence and asymptotic variances for iterated conditional sequential Monte Carlo (i-cSMC) Markov chains and associated particle Gibbs samplers. Our main findings are that the essential boundedness of potential functions associated with the i-cSMC algorithm provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the uniform ergodicity of the i-cSMC Markov chain, as well as quantitative bounds on its (uniformly geometric) rate of convergence. Furthermore, we show that the i-cSMC Markov chain cannot even be geometrically ergodic if this essential boundedness does not hold in many applications of interest. Our sufficiency and quantitative bounds rely on…

Particle Filtering for Tracking in 360 Degrees Videos Using Virtual PTZ Cameras

2019

360 degrees cameras are devices able to record spherical images of the environment. Such images can be used to generate views of the scene by projecting the spherical surface onto planes tangent to the sphere. Each of these views can be considered as the output of a virtual PTZ (vPTZ) camera with specific pan, tilt and zoom parameters. This paper proposes to formulate the visual tracking problem as the one of selecting, at each time, the vPTZ camera to foveate on the target from the unlimited set of simultaneously generated vPTZ camera views. Assuming that the selected vPTZ camera is a stochastic variable, the paper proposes to model the posterior distribution of the underlying stochastic p…

Using Visual Saliency for Object Tracking with Particle Filters

2010

International audience; This paper presents a robust tracking method based on the integration of visual saliency information into the particle filter framework. While particle filter has been successfully used for tracking non-rigid objects, it shows poor performances in the presence of large illumination variation, occlusions and when the target object and background have similar color distributions. We show that considering saliency information significantly improves the performance of particle filter based tracking. In particular, the proposed method is robust against occlusion and large illumination variation while requiring a reduced number of particles. Experimental results demonstrate th…

A Hybrid Algorithm Based on WiFi for Robust and Effective Indoor Positioning

2019

Indoor positioning based on the Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) protocol and the Pedestrian Dead Reckoning (PDR) approach is widely exploited because of the existing WiFi infrastructure in buildings and the advancement of built-in smartphone sensors. In this work, a hybrid algorithm that combines WiFi fingerprinting and PDR to both exploit their advantages as well as limiting the impact of their disadvantages is proposed. Specifically, to build a probability map from noisy Received Signal Strength (RSS), a Gaussian Process (GP) regression is deployed to estimate and construct the RSS fingerprints with incomplete data. Mean and variance of generated points are used to estimate WiFi fingerprinting p…

2-Aminopurine non-radiative decay and emission in aqueous solution: A theoretical study

2008

Abstract The minimum energy path along the lowest-lying ππ ∗ excited state of 2-aminopurine was calculated to elucidate the mechanisms of radiationless decay and emission in water. The sequential Monte Carlo quantum mechanics approach with a multiconfigurational and perturbative description of the wave function was employed to compute the minimum, transition state, and conical intersection. It was found that the barrier in the potential energy surface to access the conical intersection funnel increases in aqueous environment, making the system prone to enlarge the emission yield. These results rationalize the observed enhancement of emission in 2-aminopurine upon increasing of the solvent p…
