Sideward flow in Au + Au collisions at 400 A.MeV

1995

Abstract We present new experimental data obtained with the FOPI detector at SIS, for the Au + Au heavy-ion collisions at 400 A MeV incident energy. The sideward flow, determined from a method without reaction-plane reconstruction, and the nuclear stopping are studied as a function of the centrality of the collisions. In order to study the nuclear in-medium effects, which act on the NN cross sections and potential and hence on experimental observables like the nuclear-matter flow and stopping, these results are compared with the predictions of two different QMD versions. The first one offers a fully microscopic calculation of the cross sections and potential in the G-matrix formalism and na…

Inclusive charged-current neutrino-nucleus reactions

2011

We present a model for weak CC induced nuclear reactions at energies of interest for current and future neutrino oscillation experiments. This model is a natural extension of the work of Refs.[1,2], where the QE contribution to the inclusive electron and neutrino scattering on nuclei was analyzed. The model is based on a systematic many body expansion of the gauge boson absorption modes that includes one, two and even three body mechanisms, as well as the excitation of Delta isobars. The whole scheme has no free parameters, besides those previously adjusted to the weak pion production off the nucleon cross sections in the deuteron, since all nuclear effects were set up in previous studies o…

Pathlength dependence of energy loss within in-medium showers

2010

Studying the pathlength dependence of high P_T hadron suppression in heavy-ion collisions by measuring the dependence of hard hadron production on the angle phi with the reaction plane in non-central collisions has so far been one of the most successful tools in constraining the microscopical picture of leading parton energy loss. With the imminent start of the LHC heavy-ion program and the possibility of full jet reconstruction, the focus has shifted to models which are capable of simulating full in-medium parton showers rather than tracing the leading parton only. Yet, on the level of single inclusive hadron observables, such shower models need to reproduce the findings of leading parton …

Can relativistic pionic stripping explain (p,π+) reactions?

1978

The relativistic pionic stripping formalism is used to study pion production data on $^{12}\mathrm{C}$ and $^{40}\mathrm{Ca}$ in order to determine the appropriate form of the pion-nucleon vertex and to determine whether pionic stripping is the dominant mechanism for pion production.

Inclusive eta photoproduction in nuclei.

1993

A local model for the nuclear medium modifications to the photoproduction of \ensuremath{\eta} mesons through the ${\mathit{N}}^{\mathrm{*}}$(1535) resonance is applied to the study of the inclusive reaction in medium and heavy nuclei. The use of effective Lagrangians and many body quantum theory allows one to incorporate the nuclear decay channels of the ${\mathit{N}}^{\mathrm{*}}$ involving a pair of nucleons and Fermi sea effects. Also the \ensuremath{\eta}N final state interaction is considered, taking into account the nuclear renormalization of the \ensuremath{\eta}N scattering cross section, and assuming a classical propagation between collisions. The results show a depletion and broa…

Inclusive quasielastic charged-current neutrino-nucleus reactions

2004

The Quasi-Elastic (QE) contribution of the nuclear inclusive electron scattering model developed in Nucl. Phys. A627 (1997) 543 is extended to the study of electroweak Charged Current (CC) induced nuclear reactions, at intermediate energies of interest for future neutrino oscillation experiments. The model accounts for, among other nuclear effects, long range nuclear (RPA) correlations, Final State Interaction (FSI) and Coulomb corrections. Predictions for the inclusive muon capture in $^{12}$C and the reaction $^{12}$C $(\nu_\mu,\mu^-)X$ near threshold are also given. RPA correlations are shown to play a crucial role and their inclusion leads to one of the best existing simultaneous descri…

Inclusive quasielastic neutrino reactions inC12andO16at intermediate energies

1993

Inclusive quasielastic neutrino (antineutrino) reactions on [sup 12]C and [sup 16]O at intermediate energies (50[lt][ital E][lt]400 MeV) are studied to investigate the effects of the nuclear medium on the total cross section and the energy spectrum of the outgoing leptons. The calculations are done in the local density approximation and various nuclear effects like Pauli blocking, Fermi motion, and strong-interaction renormalizations due to the presence of nucleons are taken into account. The corrections due to Coulomb effects are included which have been hitherto neglected in inclusive reactions. The results presented here are applicable to the inclusive reactions with neutrino beams plann…

Measurement of an Excess in the Yield ofJ/ψat Very LowpTin Pb–Pb Collisions atsNN=2.76  TeV

2016

We report on the first measurement of an excess in the yield of J/ψ at very low transverse momentum (pT< 0.3 GeV/c) in peripheral hadronic Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV, performed by ALICE at the CERN LHC. Remarkably, the measured nuclear modification factor of J/ψ in the rapidity range 2.5< y< 4 reaches about 7 (2) in the pT range 0- 0.3 GeV/c in the 70-90% (50-70%) centrality class. The J/ψ production cross section associated with the observed excess is obtained under the hypothesis that coherent photoproduction of J/ψ is the underlying physics mechanism. If confirmed, the observation of J/ψ coherent photoproduction in Pb-Pb collisions at impact parameters smaller than twice the nuc…

Formation Of Hypernuclei In Evaporation And Fission Processes

2016

There are excellent opportunities to produce excited heavy hyper residues in relativistic hadron and peripheral heavy-ion collisions. We investigate the disintegration of such residues into hyper nuclei via evaporation of baryons and light clusters and their fission. Previously these processes were well known for normal nuclei as the decay channels at low excitation energies. We have generalized these models for the case of hyper-matter. In this way we make extension of nuclear reaction studies at low temperature into the strange sector. We demonstrate how the new decay channels can be integrated in the whole disintegration process. Their importance for mass and isotope distributions of pro…
