Construire l'Europe des partis
2016
During the 2014 European elections, the general public probably discovered the existence of little-known organisations: "political parties at European level". Although this is their legal name, they are more commonly referred to as "Europarties". Indeed, on the occasion of the May 2014 elections, a kind of new motivation for voting - in an attempt to bring down an abstention rate that rose dangerously in those elections - was put forward. It was explained that, from now on, it was all the more important to participate in the designation of the members of the European Parliament as it would have a decisive influence on the choice of the future President of the European Commission. This is a …
«Io non accuso, non giudico; spiego»: Napoleone III negli scritti di Tommaseo
2021
The essay analyzes the political evaluation of Niccolò Tommaseo on the role played by Napoleon III in the path of Italian unification. In this sense, the issues concerning the relationship between the Church and the nascent Italian state are particularly interesting, especially as regards political theories and relations between European nations.
En direktelinje til fansen : en retorisk studie av norske artisters kommunikasjon i sosiale medier ved promotering av nytt materiale
2016
Masteroppgave samfunnskommunikasjon- Universitetet i Agder, 2016 Denne oppgaven undersøker hvordan norske popartister promoterer nytt materiale ved hjelp av sosiale medier. Studien sammenligner to debutanters praksiser med praksisene til to etablerte artister.
Pseudo-Media Sites, Polarization, and Pandemic Skepticism in Spain
2021
The Coronavirus pandemic has triggered an authentic infodemic, which is a global epidemic of disinformation that has spread throughout most of the world. Social media platforms and pseudo-media outlets have contributed to the problem by producing and disseminating misleading content that is potentially dangerous to public health. This research focuses on a rather unknown phenomenon, which involves digital sites that mimic the appearance of news media but provide pseudo-information. Five Spanish pseudo-media have been analyzed with the aim of enhancing understanding of the issues and the frames presented. The results show clear links with the far-right ideology as well as the presence of a p…

Paradigms for Political Action. A Draft for a Repertoire
2022
Whether politics is a separate sphere or an aspect of human action is a subject of academic controversy. I focus here on the political aspect of action, which is not exclusive of other aspects. There are no ‘naturally political’ issues nor is there anything completely devoid of a political aspect. I am now taking a step backwards to discuss the seemingly simple ‘political or not’ question, as compared to the ‘political in which sense’ question, which I have discussed elsewhere. In this article, I stay on the ideal–typical level, as I want to discuss alternative ways of marking the criteria for the political aspect, without discussing the views of other scholars in detail. I call the procedu…
The triumph of partisanship: political scientists in the public debate about Catalonia's independence crisis (2010-2018)
2021
Participation in the public debate constitutes one of the most evident avenues for political scientists to demonstrate the social relevance of the discipline. This article focuses on two questions: the types of roles political scientists adopt in their public interventions and the potential tensions between their public engagement and the epistemic norms regulating academic and research activities. We investigate these questions in the context of very salient political debates, involving a high degree of political confrontation, where basic political beliefs, values, identities, and interests are at stake. Focusing on the case of the public debate surrounding the Catalan inde pendence crisi…
Young Scottish National Party (SNP) Members’ National Identity and Party Membership
2021
Scotland’s future in the United Kingdom seems to be uncertain. Even though a majority of Scottish people voted to remain in the UK in 2014, the EU referendum two years later fuelled the independence movement in Scotland. Scholars show that the Scottish independence referendum encouraged people to join political parties, particularly the Scottish National Party. This work focuses on young people. Party membership scholars agree that they are underrepresented in parties. Given that the SNP seem to be rather successful in appealing to young people, this thesis explores SNP youth membership and the reasons why young Scots make the decision to join the party. It shows that Scottish independence …
Key Electoral Institutions and Rules Influencing Proportionality and Partisan Bias in Spanish Politics
2021
The current paper focuses on the Spanish electoral rules governing political competition for the central “Congreso de los Diputados”. It is well-documented that the system as a whole has traditionally favoured one or the other of the two main political parties (PP and PSOE) at the expense of proportionality and the remaining political parties. This paper focuses on some key Spanish electoral rules and investigates how much the observed biases could be altered by introducing some alternative rules taken from the Swedish electoral system, ceteris paribus. Measures of disproportionality are made through the Loosemore–Hanby index and the Gallagher index. The electoral raw data used for our esti…
