Approximate 3D Partial Symmetry Detection Using Co-occurrence Analysis

This paper addresses approximate partial symmetry detection in 3D point clouds, a classical and foundational tool for analyzing geometry. We present a novel, fully unsupervised method that detects partial symmetry under significant geometric variability, and without constraints on the number and arrangement of instances. The core idea is a matching scheme that finds consistent co-occurrence patterns in a frame-invariant way. We obtain a canonical partition of the input shape into building blocks and can handle ambiguous data by aggregating co-occurrence information across both all building block instances and the area they cover. Abstract Let G be a finite group, let N ◃ G , and let θ ∈ Irr ( N ) be a G-invariant character. We fix a prime p, and we introduce a canonical partition of Irr ( G | θ ) relative to p. We call each member B θ of this partition a θ-block, and to each θ-block B θ we naturally associate a conjugacy class of p-subgroups of G / N , which we call the θ-defect groups of B θ . If N is trivial, then the θ-blocks are the Brauer p-blocks. Acute Type Refinements of Tetrahedral Partitions of Polyhedral Domains

We present a new technique to perform refinements on acute type tetrahedral partitions of a polyhedral domain, provided that the center of the circumscribed sphere around each tetrahedron belongs to the tetrahedron. The resulting family of partitions is of acute type; thus, all the tetrahedra satisfy the maximum angle condition. Both these properties are highly desirable in finite element analysis.

BACKGROUND: Partition coefficients give an indication of the retention of aroma compounds by the food matrix. Data in the literature are obtained by various methods, under various conditions and expressed in various units, and it is thus difficult to compare the results. The aim of the present study was first to obtain gas/water and gas/matrix partition coefficients of selected aroma compounds, at different temperatures, in order to calculate thermodynamic parameters and second to compare the retention of these aroma compounds in different food matrices. We studied the effect of Olive leaf yellowing associated virus (OLYaV) on biometric and physiological changes in olive. The trial was carried out on 32 two-yearold virus-free trees of 'Frantoio' grafted on virus-free olive seedlings and grown in 32-L pots. Half of the trees were inoculated with OLYaV in the fall of 2007. At 6, 18, and 24 months after inoculation, tree height, basal trunk diameter and total leaf number were determined, and leaf area tree-1 was estimated from a 50-leaf subsample. Abstract An analytical methodology based on the use of a polyethylene layflat tube filled with activated carbon and Florisil (ACFL-VERAM) was employed for the passive sampling of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the air of working areas of packing industries. VOCs amount in the ACFL-VERAM sampler was directly determined through head-space-gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (HS-GC–MS) allowing a direct determination in only 20 min without the need of any previous treatment.
