Predictions for low-pTand high-pThadron spectra in nearly central Pb+Pb collisions atsNN=5.5TeV tested atsNN=130and 200 GeV

We study the hadron spectra in nearly central $A+A$ collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in a broad transverse momentum range. We cover the low-${p}_{T}$ spectra using longitudinally boost-invariant hydrodynamics with initial energy and net-baryon number densities from the perturbative QCD (pQCD)+saturation model. Buildup of the transverse flow and sensitivity of the spectra to a single decoupling temperature ${T}_{\mathrm{dec}}$ are studied. Comparison with RHIC data at $\sqrt{{s}_{\mathit{NN}}}=130$ and 200 GeV suggests a rather high value ${T}_{\mathrm{dec}}=150$ MeV. The high-${p}_{T}$ spectra are computed using factorized pQCD cro…

Measurement of angular correlations of jets at s=1.96 TeV and determination of the strong coupling at high momentum transfers

We present a measurement of the average value of a new observable at hadron colliders that is sensitive to QCD dynamics and to the strong coupling constant, while being only weakly sensitive to parton distribution functions. The observable measures the angular correlations of jets and is defined as the number of neighboring jets above a given transverse momentum threshold which accompany a given jet within a given distance Delta-R in the plane of rapidity and azimuthal angle. Comparison study of medium-modified QCD shower evolution scenarios

The computation of hard processes in hadronic collisions is a major success of perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (pQCD). In such processes, pQCD not only predicts the hard reaction itself, but also the subsequent evolution in terms of parton branching and radiation, leading to a parton shower and ultimately to an observable jet of hadrons. If the hard process occurs in a heavy-ion collision, a large part of this evolution takes place in the soft medium created along with the hard reaction. An observation of jets in heavy-ion collision thus allows a study of medium-modified QCD shower evolution. In vacuum, Monte-Carlo (MC) simulations are well established tools to describe such showers. Two-loop divergences of massive scattering amplitudes in non-abelian gauge theories

The infrared divergences of QCD scattering amplitudes can be derived from an anomalous dimension \Gamma, which is a matrix in color space and depends on the momenta and masses of the external partons. It has recently been shown that in cases where there are at least two massive partons involved in the scattering process, starting at two-loop order \Gamma receives contributions involving color and momentum correlations between three (and more) partons. The three-parton correlations can be described by two universal functions F_1 and f_2. Next-to-leading order QCD corrections toW+W+andW−W−production in association with two jets

We present a study of ${W}^{+}{W}^{+}jj$ and ${W}^{\ensuremath{-}}{W}^{\ensuremath{-}}jj$ production including leptonic decays in hadron-hadron collisions. The full electroweak and QCD induced contributions and their interferences are calculated at leading order. We find that, for inclusive cuts, the interference effects can be large if the jets are produced with large transverse momentum where, however, the production rate is suppressed. We also discuss the vector-boson-fusion cuts and show the validity of the vector-boson-fusion approximation. The next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the QCD-induced channels are also calculated. Some remarks on dipole showers and the DGLAP equation

It has been argued recently that parton showers based on colour dipoles conflict with collinear factorization and do not lead to the correct DGLAP equation. We show that this conclusion is based on an inappropriate assumption, namely the choice of the gluon energy as evolution variable. We further show numerically that Monte Carlo programs based on dipole showers with "infrared sensible" evolution variables reproduce the DGLAP equation both in asymptotic form as well as in comparison to the leading behaviour of second-order QCD matrix elements.

Measurement of inclusive jet and dijet production inppcollisions ats=7  TeVusing the ATLAS detector

Inclusive jet and dijet cross sections have been measured in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV using the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The cross sections were measured using jets clustered with the anti-kT algorithm with parameters R=0.4 and R=0.6. These measurements are based on the 2010 data sample, consisting of a total integrated luminosity of 37 inverse picobarns. Inclusive jet double-differential cross sections are presented as a function of jet transverse momentum, in bins of jet rapidity. Measurement of three-jet differential cross sections dσ3jet/dM3jet in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV

We present the first measurement of the inclusive three-jet differential cross section as a function of the invariant mass of the three jets with the largest transverse momenta in an event in p anti-p collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV. The measurement is made in different rapidity regions and for different jet transverse momentum requirements and is based on a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.7 fb^{-1} collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The results are used to test the three-jet matrix elements in perturbative QCD calculations at next-to-leading order in the strong coupling constant. Medium-modified Jet Shapes and other Jet Observables from in-medium Parton Shower Evolution

The suppression of large transverse momentum hadrons in heavy-ion (A-A) collisions as compared to their scaled expectation from proton-proton collisions due to the interaction of hard partons with the hot and dense QCD medium in A-A collisions is experimentally a well established phenomenon. Focusing on leading hadrons produced in hard processes, the medium effect appears as energy loss. Beyond that, the question is how the lost energy is redistributed in the medium. Transverse energy from minijets in ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions: a next-to-leading order analysis

We compute in next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD the amount of transverse energy produced into a rapidity region $\Delta Y$ of a nuclear collision from partons created in the few-GeV subcollisions. The NLO formulation assumes collinear factorization and is based on the subtraction method. We first study the results as a function of the minimum transverse momentum scale and define and determine the associated $K$-factors. The dependence of the NLO results on the scale choice and on the size of $\Delta Y$ is also studied. The calculations are performed for GRV94 and CTEQ5 sets of parton distributions.
