Three-Dimensional parton structure of light nuclei
2017
Two promising directions beyond inclusive deep inelastic scattering experiments, aimed at unveiling the three dimensional structure of the bound nucleon, are reviewed, considering in particular the $^3$He nucleus. The 3D structure in coordinate space can be accessed through deep exclusive processes, whose non-perturbative part is encoded in generalized parton distributions (GPDs). In this way, the distribution of partons in the transverse plane can be obtained. As an example, coherent deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) off $^3$He nuclei, important to access the neutron GPDs, will be discussed. In Impulse Approximation (IA), the sum of two GPDs of $^3$He, $H$ and $E$, at low momentum t…
Exclusive muoproduction on transversely polarised protons and deuterons
2012
The transverse target spin azimuthal asymmetry A(UT)(sin(phi-phi s)) in hard exclusive production of rho(0) mesons was measured at COMPASS by scattering 160 GeV/c muons off transversely polarised protons and deuterons. The measured asymmetry is sensitive to the nucleon helicity-flip generalised parton distributions E-q, which are related to the orbital angular momentum of quarks in the nucleon. The Q(2), x-B-j and p(T)(2) dependence of A(UT)(sin(phi-phi s)) is presented in a wide kinematic range: 1 (GeV/c)(2) < Q(2) < 10 (GeV/c)(2), 0.003 < xB(j) < 0.3 and 0.05 (GeV/c)(2) < p(T)(2) < 0.5 (GeV/c)(2) for protons or 0.10 (GeV/c)(2) < p(T)(2) < 0.5 (GeV/c)(2) for deuterons. Results for deuteron…
Pion parton distributions in a nonlocal Lagrangian
2005
We use phenomenological nonlocal Lagrangians, which lead to non trivial forms for the quark propagator, to describe the pion. We define a procedure, based on the Dyson-Schwinger equations, for the calculation of the pion parton distributions at low Q^2. The obtained parton distributions fulfill all the wishful properties. Using a convolution approach we incorporate the composite character of the constituent quarks in the formalism. We evolve, using the Renormalization Group, the calculated parton distributions to the experimental scale and compare favorably with the data and draw conclusions.
Parton distributions in a constituent quark scenario
1999
A simple picture of the constituent quark as a composite system of point-like partons is used to construct the unpolarized and polarized parton distributions by a convolution between constituent quark momentum distributions and constituent quark structure functions. We achieve good agreement with experiments in the unpolarized, as well as, in the polarized case. When our results are compared with similar calculations using non-composite constituent quarks, the accord with the experiments of the present scheme is impressive. We conclude that DIS data are consistent with a low energy scenario dominated by composite constituents of the nucleon.
Parton polarization and constituent quarks
1995
Abstract A systematic study of the polarized-parton distributions is presented and related to the properties of the constituent quarks. The effects of breaking SU(6) symmetry are emphasized and the Isgur-Karl constituent model is discussed in detail. The results on the proton, neutron and deuteron structure functions are compared with the recent experimental data, and the role of the gluon polarization is pointed out. The role of the D-state admixture in the nucleon ground state is also investigated.
Hard Exclusive Reactions and the Structure of Hadrons
2001
We outline in detail the properties of generalized parton distributions (GPDs), which contain new information on the structure of the nucleon and which enter the description of hard exclusive reactions. We highlight the physics content of the GPDs and discuss the quark GPDs in the large $N_c$ limit and within the context of the chiral quark-soliton model. Guided by this physics, we then present a general parametrization for these GPDs. Subsequently we discuss how these GPDs enter in a wide variety of hard electroproduction processes and how they can be accessed from them. We consider in detail deeply virtual Compton scattering and the hard electroproduction of mesons. We identify a list of …
Helicity-dependent generalized parton distributions and composite constituent quarks
2004
An approach, recently proposed to calculate the nucleon generalized parton distributions (GPDs) in a constituent quark model (CQM) scenario, in which the constituent quarks are taken as complex systems, is used to obtain helicity-dependent GPDs. They are obtained from the wave functions of the non relativistic CQM of Isgur and Karl, convoluted with the helicity-dependent GPDs of the constituent quarks themselves. The latter are modelled by using the polarized structure functions of the constituent quark, the double distribution representation of GPDs, and a phenomenological constituent quark form factor. The present approach permits to access a kinematical range corresponding to both the Do…
Relativity and constituent quark structure in model calculations of parton distributions
2004
According to recent studies, Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs) and Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) can be evaluated in a Constituent Quark Model (CQM) scenario, considering the constituent quarks as composite objects. In here, a fully covariant model for a system of two particles, together with its non relativistic limit, are used to calculate PDFs and GPDs. The analysis permits to realize that by no means the effects of Relativity can be simulated taking into account the structure of the constituent particles, the two effects being independent and necessary for a proper description of available high energy data in terms of CQM.
Deeply virtual electroproduction of photons and mesons on the nucleon : leading order amplitudes and power corrections
1999
We estimate the leading order amplitudes for exclusive photon and meson electroproduction reactions at large Q^2 in the valence region in terms of skewed quark distributions. As experimental investigations can currently only be envisaged at moderate values of Q^2, we estimate power corrections due to the intrinsic transverse momentum of the partons in the meson wavefunction and in the nucleon. To this aim the skewed parton distribution formalism is generalized so as to include the parton intrinsic transverse momentum dependence. Furthermore, for the meson electroproduction reactions, we calculate the soft overlap type contributions and compare with the leading order amplitudes. We give firs…
Generalized parton distributions and constituent quarks
2002
An approach is described to calculate Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) in Constituent Quark Models (CQM). The GPDs are obtained from wave functions to be evaluated in a given CQM. The general relations linking the twist-two GPDs to the form factors and to the leading twist quark densities are recovered. Results for the leading twist, unpolarized GPD in the Isgur and Karl model are presented.
