Telomeres are complex structures formed by the end of the DNA molecule at the tip of each chromosomal arm. The repeated (TTAGGG) telomeric sequence progressively shortens during lifespan because it cannot be replicated as somatic cells divide, and is highly susceptible to breakage by free radicals. Critically shortened telomeres activate the genetic program of cell senescence and/or apoptosis. AbstractImmunohistochemistry for vascular network analysis plays a fundamental role in basic science, translational research and clinical practice. However, identifying vascularization in histological tissue images is time consuming and markedly depends on the operator’s experience. In this study, we present “blood vessel detection—BVD”, an automatic algorithm for quantitative analysis of blood vessels in immunohistochemical images. BVD is based on extraction and analysis of low-level image features and spatial filtering techniques, which do not require a training phase. Objective The study investigated the relationship between psychological parental control and muscle dysmorphia in adolescence, as form of exercise dependence, focusing also on the role of pathological worry. Methods Participants were 312 adolescents (140 boys and 172 girls) aged 16 to 18 years (M= 17.05; SD = 0.85) and completed the Muscle Dysmorphia Disorder Inventory, the Dependency-oriented and Achievement-oriented Parental Psychological Control, and the Penn State Worry Questionnaire. Is Ranibizumab effective in stopping loss of vision secondary to Choroidal Neovascularization in Pathologic Myopia? A Long Term Follow-up Study.

Purpose: To assess the efficacy and safety of Ranibizumab in the treatment of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) caused by pathologic myopia (PM). Design: Prospective, multicenter, interventional case series. Methods: 40 of 39 consecutive patients with PM and CNV were treated with “on-demand” intravitreal injection of ranibizumab 0.5 mg. Final best-corrected VA (BCVA) and its change from baseline were the main outcome measures. Changes in Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) central retinal thickness (CRT) were a secondary outcome.
