Although the arrival of new chemotherapy drugs and combinations has brought progress in terms of cancer patient survival, they entail many adverse effects that can compromise treatment, and hence prognosis, of the disease. Cytostatic agents can cause dermatological toxicity, among other side effects. The most familiar adverse effect of chemotherapy is alopecia. Although not serious, this changes the outward appearance of cancer patients. Bilateral jaws involvement of Burkitt?s lymphoma in a pediatric patient

A case of Burkitt’s lymphoma with bilateral jaws involvement in a 5-year-old boy is reported discussing the dentist’s role in the diagnosis and management of this disease. The initial clinical diagnosis established of maxillary swelling causing trismus was a dentoalveolar abscess. The incisional biopsy was performed and histopathological analysis, including immunohistochemistry, confirmed the Burkitt’s lymphoma. The patient underwent treatment and remains free of the disease for 36 months of follow-up. The occurrence of intraoral bilateral jaws involvement of Burkitt’s lymphoma in child is unusual and its accurate diagnosis avoids complications in the patient’s treatment. Key words:Burkitt’…

Abstract Background Nephrotoxic drug prescription may contribute to acute kidney injury (AKI) occurrence and worsening among critically ill patients and thus to associated morbidity and mortality. The objectives of this study were to describe nephrotoxic drug prescription in a large intensive-care unit cohort and, through a case–control study nested in the prospective cohort, to evaluate the link of nephrotoxic prescription burden with AKI. Aim The World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule II (WHODAS II) was developed for assessing disability. This study provides data on the validity and utility of the Spanish version of the WHODAS II in a large sample of patients with schizophrenia. Methods The sample included 352 patients with a schizophrenia spectrum disorder. They completed a comprehensive assessment battery including measures of psychopathology, functionality and quality-of-life. A sub-sample of 36 patients was retested after six months to assess its temporal stability.
